I joined the ice floating activity with Nordic Unique Travel on 26 November 2023. It was a deeply unpleasant experience, because (1) WATER LEAK in the suit; (2) Unprofessional behavior from the tour guides and assistants; (3) No rescue plan. Despite the tour description promising an activity duration of around 3.5 hours, the actual ice-floating time is indeed only about 20 minutes. Given that I paid 88 euros for this experience, I essentially paid for a 20-minute unpleasant experience.
Here are the details of my bad ice floating experience with Nordic Unique Travel:
We traveled for around 20mins from Santa Claus Village to reach their base/office where we started changing into the suit. One of the girls noticed water in the suit around the foot area and asked for changing to a new suit. This indicated that not only did I encounter the water leak problem, but someone else had experienced the same issue before.
There were 3 staff members present, one of whom provided me with a suit. I was concerned about the suit being too large for me, so I asked 2 staff separately to confirm if the suit was a good fit. Both of them assured me that it was fine. Despite my doubts, I proceeded to put on the suit. However, my hand could not reach the glove area, and my feet could not reach the foot/boot part of the suit.
After changing the suit, we needed to walk for about a minute to the lake. The suit was too large for me, making it super difficult to walk. I asked the staff for the third time and the third staff member reassured me that a larger suit was actually better. I proceeded to the lake, where I was the first few people to get in.
The lake was small, with around 15 people in it at the same time. After getting into the lake for around 1-2mins, someone get in and swung his/her arm, and then I got water splashed all over my face and water started to leak into my head area, wetting my left side head, hair, and shoulder. When I called for help, the staff simply told me to swing my arms and return to the lake shore. However, due to the suit being too large, I could not see the shore, making it difficult for me to return.
My husband could see the shore so he tried very hard to locate the shore and pushed me there. And when I reached the shore, again someone else passed by me and swung his/her arm, water splashed on my face again and more water leaked into my head.
Since we could only enter and exit the lake using the built-in ladder, I had to walk back to the ladder to get out. The suit was so large that it was like walking in a penguin suit, with my feet literally stepping on the "trouser legs" part of the suit. The bottom of the lake was full of soft soil/snow, making it extra difficult to walk properly. I had fall down once and my whole head drown into water. The staff did not have any action and just told my husband to help me get up. On the way to the ladder, every second I felt like I’m falling down again and could NOT get up again. I was so afraid and walking back to the ladder was 10 times harder than lifting an 80kg barbell.
You can only rely on yourself or your partner to rescue you. The staff just stand by the lake side in their warm clothes and told you go the shore. I am so shocked that they do not have rescue plan…
After the activity, we were taken to another room for drinks and cookies. The water was room temperature, and the blueberry water (yes it is not even juice) was a bit warm. The ginger cookies were also at room temperature. After about 10-15 minutes in the room, we were taken back to our hotel.
While I know my review may not gain much attention as there are too many positive reviews on Google, I still want to share my experience to help at least someone avoid a similar situation. I hope everyone can have a fun and relaxing holiday in Finland!

We booked three tours through Nordic Unique Travels during our recent visit in Rovaniemi, Finland. One of the tours was ice fishing. We loved the view and enjoyed the fun activity. It was super cold on the day we visited, so we didn’t hang out too long on the lake. Our tour guide Rami was very welcoming and highly organized. He made sure we enjoyed the experience, stayed warm, and had a nice grill in the little cabin after fishing. All three tours with Nordic Unique Travels turned out memorable and pleasant. Their staff were great in communication. Checking in at our tours were efficient and smooth. Pricing was fair. No matter we were among a small group or a larger group, we never felt crowded or disorganized, and we always received personal attention as needed. I highly recommend them to add fun to your next trip.

While the snowmobiling was fun, the hour or so wait while a horde of tourists are fitted for snowsuits and balaclava's really put a downer on the experience.
We were picked up from our hotel at 9:50 and didn't start snowmobiling until 11:30 due to a very inefficient and stressful fitting process.
The tour guide was friendly enough, and the hot drink afterwards was a nice touch.
I was however unaware that we would be asked to front €30 to 'insure' our snowmobile, which if crashed, would still run you a bill of €300. This ofcourse, like every other step, took a long time and was haphazardly organised. (FYI the path you ride on is well trodden, and straight for the majority, it would be hard to crash. You may wish to consider forgoing this charge)
There are no toilets at any point of this trip, unless you seek one out on your own, so make sure to go beforehand.

Since there are bigger groups in high season, we might need more time to make sure all our customers are ready and well prepared to go for safety either with the winter clothes or the insurances. However, we always make sure the tour inclusions are still well conducted for example the enough snowmobile riding time despite of many customers.

Of all the trips we did, this was the BEST! Jane was a fantastic guide, the trip was well organised and care was taken to ensure that everyone had the right equipment to engage in the activity. The views were amazing, I would absolutely do it again, and I would feel confident in booking other trips with Nordic Unique Travels on the basis of this experience.

The tour's arrangement was nice! We did the ice fishing in the morning, when there is sunlight, and did the snowmobile experience in the afternoon, giving my friends and I a taste of Rovaniemi's day and "night" adventures. The ice fishing experience was freezing yet interesting, and the snowmobile experience was exciting and cool!
Our adventure guides Cator, Aldo and Sergio are super nice and friendly. They offer different translations for guests and prepared food for us very carefully.
Thank you guide Cator for checking out the salmons' condition before handing the food to us, and bringing us to the airport when we need to catch a flight. Would also love to thank guide Aldo for lending me a neck warmer during the snowmobile experience when I accidentally left mine in the shuttle bus.
Overall, nice outdoor gears that kept us warm for the entire tour, and great guides and arrangements! Will definitely recommend this tour to friends :D

I was able to appreciate the difference in Marti, the northern light hunter and an avid photographer, versus the earlier 2 outings with another operators. He was actively driving and searching, or I should say , chasing for clear sky to secure higher probability of seeing the northern light NL. He made quick stops, making calls and searching the Internet app and he seems to have the chat network with similar NL hunters spreading around to achieve real time communication . The confidence in the operandi modus was really professional. He set up the camera and lens, scanning through the sky and achieved multiple hits with good blast of NL. I can see he enjoyed the wait , the hunt and more so , the astronomical photography. He would spare the entire night beyond his time for duty as he loves taking pictures of the sky. I would say my family had a great time , with incessant photo taking to our heart's content with the back drop of the beautiful AURORA BOREALIS. I thank him for providing this invaluable experience and indelible memory for the outing with my family.

Let me start off by saying that the snowmobile tour was good. It was quite slow and stop-start in the beginning, but then it picked up and we had a decent amount of time to go faster and really enjoy the ride.
I also want to add that the guides were friendly and had a lot on their plate, especially at the office which was hectic. They were helpful when it came to any issues on the snowmobiles. So kudos to them.
The frustrating thing was that we were picked up from our accommodation and didn't get on a snowmobile until 2 hours later, and that this was entirely unnecessary.
We were staying close to the snowmobiles, and we told the guide that we had our own winter gear upon pickup (we were not asked about this in advance). Despite this we were transported to the Nordic Unique Travels office in Rovaniemi city center (a pretty grim office at that), and it was here where we signed a waiver and waited for an hour whilst others got their winter gear.
Eventually we boarded the bus again and got to the snowmobiles, where we got helmets and then had to wait for another large group to depart on their tour before we could go. When we finally got the snowmobile induction and were ready to go, it had been 2 hours since our pickup. All we had done was travel to the office and signed a waiver, and then travelled back again to the snowmobiles.
We could have easily met up with the group and signed the waiver at the snowmobiles (which we were staying close to), saving us 2 hours of time and stress. This showed a lack of coordination on the part of the provider. Why not ask people if they have their own winter gear, before taking them to the office (which is already overrun with people)? Why not let people with their own gear meet at the snowmobiles and simply have them sign the waiver there? This was especially frustrating since we were staying 10 mins from the snowmobiles, and the provider knew this. So getting there would be no issue for us.
I hope Nordic Unique Travels takes this feedback onboard and that they can adjust their process so that other travelers avoid this unnecessary hassle in the future.

Hey there, we will arrive in Rovaniemi tomorrow and think about doing the Horse Riding tour you offer on GetYourGuide on Saturday. I am a horse rider but my husband is not. Does he need further knowledge of horseriding or can he do the tour as a beginner? Thanks for your help - we could not find an answer to this question in the description of the tour as nothing is stated about whether you need experience or not. Kind regards

Hi, how long will the husky ride be? It says "short ride" so we think if its better to book two separated tours. We would like to have a husky ride of about at least one hour, and snowmobile the same. We are two people. What should we book with your company?

We did the husky/reindeer/snowmobile tour. The husky and reindeer were very short. Maybe 10 minutes each. The snow mobile was probably an hour and a half. Sounds like you want to different safaris. One husky. One snow mobile. How this helps?

comment - If you are a solo traveler be prepared cause in Rovaniemi is not easy to book a tour, I found this tour company and they helped me to book a very nice tour for a reasonable price. I spent most memorable moments during my stay in Rovaniemi and I fully recommend Nordic Unique Travels!

En la agencia si hablan Español, pero algunas excursiones solo guía en ingles. Los conductores de motos , por ejemplo, o la de visita a la granja de renos. Puede que fuese por falta de disponibilidad

je pars le weekend prochain en solo et j'aurais souhaité faire cette activité... or il y a un minimum de 2 personnes obligatoires .. est il possible de trouver quelqu'un qui voyage solo et qui souhaiterais faire comme moi en date du 02/03/2019 ???
