Right when I had left all hopes Kari came in right at that time. He came highly recommended by Guesthouse Husky, where I was staying at Ivalo. Kari knew the exact spot from where we could watch Aurora and believe me when I say - What a show it was!! The most amazing, mesmerizing, surreal experience of my life!
I Got to experience this event with my Mom which made it even more special. Can't thank him enough for giving me a memory of a lifetime!! Thanks Kari! 😊

Great experience snowmobile safari. Guide very experienced, attentive, encouraging and knowledgeable. Was not confident at first to ride but in the end had lost of fun riding through the forest trail at night 😊 highly recommend!

We did the snowmobile early winter tour. Por guide picked us up in the Hotel and was very flexible letting us take our luggage with us. Then we take us to a office we gave us all the gear we need (helmet, snow clothing, etc). Afterwards we when a little by car inside a florest were we have the snowmobiles waiting. The guide was supper nice we even gave us some tee and biscuits during the tour. The view is amazing. Strongly recommend it!!!

Our snowmobile trip was amazing!! Went through the frozen river and forest, we saw reindeers and the guide even provided a tea break in between, where we stopped in a hill with an amazing view.

What an amazing afternoon we had with Kaisu. The great weather, an even better guide and the fact that we saw some beautiful reindeer (twice!) made our snowmobile tour truly unforgettable. Personal attention, perfect equipment and really great service – highly recommended. Thank you so much!

we did 4 hours snowmobile and ice fishing tour on frozen river and lake including bonfire near to harbor. It was an amazing experience, highly recommended! Our guide was very friendly, kiitos!

First of all, I have to say that this experience is a bit expensive with 125€ per person. For that price, the guide picks you up at your stay in a van for up to 8 people (we were only 4 that night which was great) and the tour goes 2-4 h depending on the appearance of the northern lights.
BUT: our guide was super nice and friendly all the time and he had a great camera. We went to 4 different places to see the northern lights and the guide knows a lot of great places (there was almost no light pollution and you could even see the milky way!). In the end we saw the most amazing northern light I've ever seen and it lasted for almost a full hour, way better than everything I've seen on TV before.
The guide is super enthusiastic and it was about 11 pm when we saw the light and he made a lot of great pictures of us and of the lights themselves even that late and under extreme conditions, -27°C that day. He shares them afterwards online. There is also space in the trunk in case you have some equipment yourselves.
I did the picture with standard settings on my phone, that's why it is so blurry. In real life it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!
SUMMARY:
It's expensive, but if you want to have a unique experience seeing the lights, go for that tour, it's totally worth it and I would go again.

It is hard to forecast because every year is different and it depends on space weather how much and how strong the northern lights we can see.
My experience is that at least in every week it is possible to see the northern lights in Ivalo in November.

There is not enough snow in November to arrange snowmobile safaris.

Hi, I would like to know what is the recommended period to visit Ivalo to catch the northern lights (hopefully a period with more daylight?)

We went in Feb 2919 and were there for 4 days 3 nights (from Sunday to Wed) as we did the snow mobil and huskie sled ride in the day time then went out to see the northern lights at night. We did not see it and it seems the northern lights appeared the Wed or Thurs before.
You can still see northern lights but frequency lesser these few years as it is not in the peak cycle which follows a 11 yr cycle and the last peak was 2013/2014. It means to increase your chance of seeing it now means you need to stay longer in Ivalo. Then again it means you need to plan other things to do. Even so no guarantee. Also note the full moon thing as well. All the best !
