Kirsi and Petri provided an excellent and informative tour! The experience of being amongst the reindeer was fabulous and it was fascinating to learn more about Sámi culture and the life of reindeer herders and their families. Clothes provided were wonderfully warm and Kirsi’s pastries were delicious. Definitely recommend for an incredibly unique experience!

We read some of the reviews for Petri Mattus' Reindeer Farm and thought we had to visit. I'm so glad we did we had a great experience visiting Petri's reindeer farm! We all really enjoyed it, our 3 children (aged 4 through 10) loved it.
We had no trouble booking via email obtained through Petri's website and the directions took us from Inari right to his door. Petri met us and provided additional socks, bigger shoes, full overalls over the top of our snow gear, plus gloves balaclavas and helmets. Fully kitted out we took a seat in the sled (our family of 5 plus another couple). Petri towed us behind the snow mobile across the frozen lake and through the forest to a clearing and called out to the reindeer, some were already there waiting and many more came running! Petri set up a camp fire and made coffee, tea and hot chocolate and provided cinnamon rolls while he talked about reindeer and reindeer herding. It was really interesting! We then went back to Petri's house where we met his wife Kirsi. Whilst all rugged up we were a bit cold on return, Kirsi helped our little one get out of the additional clothes and rubbed her hands to keep her warm and even offered to rub her feet! Kirsi talked about the Sami culture, the Inari Sami language and schooling. It was really interesting. To finish the visit we tried our hand at lassoing a reindeer and then Petri lassoed one of children! It was cold but it was great. We loved it! Go and visit if you can- be sure to book ahead, it is a working farm. Thanks Petri & Kirsi

There's not much to see around here except a few reminders and some history about the area but it was nice nevertheless.

Thank you for rating. I am sorry to hear that your visit has not completely met your expectations. I wonder if you have visited us before we were able to start our season this year. The snow came very late last year (2018) and we started our normal program mid december. This would mean that you have been on a short visit, clise by our house. We do these some times for our close by hotel, when they request it. I hope you will have a possibility and interest to join us to the wilderness to see the reindeer.
Happy New Year
Regards Petri

This is once again a must-do in Finnish Lapland. Petri is a celebrity, as many film-makers visit him for his dedication to reindeer and his Sami-way-of-living.
It was a wonderful activity to start a holiday in Lapland. Petri and his whole family are great hosts and we got a full insight into the life of a reindeer herder in Lapland. It is a truly mystical (very zen!) life they live and the ride to the reindeer feeding place was fantastic. We got to socialize with the animals and once they got used to us, it was no problem for them to pat them.
Special thanks to Petri's wife for giving a great insight into the Sami culture!

First - be aware that the only sign they the farm is the number of the road on the post. We missed it. Other than that, you are in for a fabulous visit. Petri and wife will outfit you with warm gear, you will ride a sleigh to a rain deer spot in the forest where the herder tries to bring them about for some much needed winter feed. Around the fire you will have coffee tea cakes and lovely genuine Sami reindeer culture story. We were surrounded by reindeer that emerged from forest after the call. Everything was awesome - in Petri house you will learn about phenomenal efforts of cultural circles to revitalize Sami language, you will if you are good meet Elma the resident reindeer (other reindeer are free animals and roam forest so they have to be summoned). We would love to come one day in May to see the babies. This was a visit we will cherish as one of the most profound Sami experiences. And the owner and his wife are just genuine, caring and thoughtful people.
Oh - if you plan to buy rain deer pelt Petri has the best price and nicest selection of high quality. You have to pay cash.

A small group of us (9 in total) travelled to Petri's house. We were warmly welcomed, fitted with helmets and then taken by sledge, pulled by his snowmobile, deep into the forest, where he stopped and called his herd. It was amazing to see them run to meet us and we spent a wonderful couple of hours surrounded by the herd, listening to Petri sharing details of his life with us. He is an excellent speaker, witty and engaging, with a real talent for drawing people in. He built a fire and made us comfortable on reindeer skins, before producing a kettle and brewing coffee and tea, even producing home made cinnamon buns for us. It was a beautiful experience, relaxing round the fire, chatting and asking questions, laughing and watching the reindeer feeding. When we returned, he invited us into his beautiful cottage so we could see how he and his family live. A unique experience and one I shall treasure for a long time.

Today's experience is amazing, Patris was very kindly accepted our last minute booking yesterday. Then today we joined a group of other 7 people, visited the reindeer farm, where he showed us his passion as a reindeer herder. Had a open fire and a cup of hot tea. Once we got back, he also showed us his house and his life. Such a wonderful experience.

Coming to the reindeer farm was the best decision ever ! Petri is an excellent guide. He took us to see the reindeers, started a fire, prepared some tea and coffee. The experience is unbelievable. He is the real deal. You can see the animals in their natural habitat. If You have the chance to visit his farm, DO IT ! You won’t regret it!

Hello, my son and I will travel in a few months.
I would like to know when it is the best time to visit and enjoy your farm in March, April or May. Which of these three months would be better to visit you?
thanks!!

Hi, thank You for the message.
We have the reindeer herder's dsy - program available till the end of April. And calfing - program 10th-20th May. They are very dufferend, but in both you get close to the reindeer.
Un March we still have a good winter and I recommend that. The program is still possible in April, but You never know how fast the spring comes and the snow condition change. We do carry out the program then as well.
Welcome to Inari

Hi, I am so sorry that I have not seen your question here. At that time we did not have the season for taking guests going on yet, since this year we did not have any snow yet at time.
The best way to make a reservation us to send email.

I'm so attracted to your farm but some of these reindeers look so hungry and skinny. Our family is planning a trip so hope we can come visit. Hope all's well with all the animals and farm.

Hi, thank you for your message. The reindeer are free animals and they live free in the nature. I don't know which animals seem hungry. Our reindeer are doing fine.
The reindeer find their food in the nature. Sometimes the winter conditions may be hard and the ground gets frozen, then the animals have difficulties to get enough food. But then we offer them extra food in the nature.
We also have a possibility to bring some reindeer home and give them extra care, if they are in crtical condition. This is needeed rarely.
