We visited as a group and it was great getting up close to the reindeer and feeding them. We heard all about reindeer in Finland and also the history and culture of the Sami, presented in a very interesting way. We were served coffee, tea and homemade biscuits in a traditional Sami building. There is a small shop selling local handicrafts where we bought antlers and horn buttons. The farm is situated on the edge of the wilderness and the winter landscape was stunning. Altogether a fascinating and educational couple of hours.

An experience that goes beyond expectations ... the trip on a sled pulled by a snowmobile in the middle of nowhere in the snowy forest is already worth the price of the visit.
And then the encounter with the free reindeer that gradually came to us from the forest (about 150 of them arrived) and the unique possibility of getting close to them, the stories around the fire ... I would have liked to ask Petri many more things but due to my poor English I had to limit myself ... nevertheless we learned many interesting things about his way of life and the way reindeer are managed. His wife then explained to us, once back home, the efforts they are carrying out to keep the Sami languages alive and finally Petri taught us (with all our limitations) to catch a reindeer with a lasso, very funny. The serenity of this family who lives in the forest 30 km from the nearest village is something that strikes and remains in the heart.

Petri and his Kirsi were very welcoming. Following Petri to feed his reindeers was instructive as he openly shares his knowledge and stories about life as a herder. The shirt journey from his house to the herd in a sleigh was very beautiful. Seeing the reindeers up close is also really nice. He made a fire and offered us coffee and snack. We were also glad that we could purchase pelts directly from him.
A brilliant activity.

Amazing experience! Petri will bring you in the forest and you will see the reindeers in their natural environment. Petri and his wife will tell you a lot about reindeer's farming and sami culture. This experience felt very "real" and not only for turist.

This was one of the highlights of our trip in Lapland! Petri took us to the forest with his snowmobile where we found hundreds of reindeers waiting hor us! We got to feed them, observe them, and hear everything about them from Petri who responded all our questions with accuracy and enthusiasm. We also got to rest around a fire pit with hot coffee/tea and cinnamon buns. It was also great to learn more about the Sami language and culture and to visit the small shop (where we bought a fantastic reindeer hide). We highly recommend it!

The welcome was very friendly and warm. You can get clothes and helmets on site if you are not dressed warmly enough. Then you go on a sleigh attached to a jet ski through the snowy Finnish countryside to the free-roaming reindeer. Once you get there, the animals are fed and you can move around freely and enjoy your time. You are also served cake, tea and coffee. You are told something about the animals and the Sami culture. Also worth mentioning is that Petri (the host and guide) speaks great English. The only downside is that you have to organize the trip yourself. All in all, a wonderful trip, we really enjoyed it.

I made a request for a guided tour and was rejected. The justification: Only for groups.
In response to this answer, I asked if I could join a group. I have not received an answer to that.
For me, this approach was disappointing. Especially since nothing is noted on the website that you have to be a group for bookings.

I visited Petri's reindeer farm in March and it has become one of my favourite memories of the Lapland and in fact my whole 5 week journey, I would go back to visit in a heartbeat. Anyone who visits this beautiful place and walks away thinking 'just reindeer' didn't take the time to get to know this wonderful family and learn about the history of the Sami people. Do yourself a big favour and add this to your itinerary, you won't be disappointed :)

We visited Petri's reindeer farm (and home) as part of a "DIY visit to Santa in Lapland" staying in Saariselka in December 2016. It would probably have been difficult/expensive to visit Petri's reindeer farm from Saariselka without a car but luckily, as we were "DIY", we had rented one from Ivalo airport. Petri's home/farm is about 30 minutes north of Ivalo and it took us about 1hr 20 minutes in total to get there from Saariselka (in good weather) ready to meet Petri at 10am.
We had done a husky sled ride while in Saariselka and wanted something a bit more than being taken to see a couple of reindeer in pen. Doing some research I happened across reviews of Petri's farm via Tripadvisor. I fully expected when calling on the Wednesday to enquire about Thursday to find that it wouldn't be possible for us to visit but our luck was in and Petri was able to organise something for us the next day. (I rang him and he called back to make the arrangements.) Petri said he didn't like to take groups bigger than 6 and, that day, it was just the 3 of us (my wife, 8 year old daughter and me). I wouldn't bank on being able to do like we did and book the day before - book well ahead as it really is worth it.
It was an amazing experience as others have said. We were met by Petri and his wife on arrival and then kitted out in their house with all their warm clothing (do take it!!) before being driven across the frozen lake and into the forest on a very comfortable sleigh pulled by Petri's snowmobile. I won't repeat what others have said about what happens but it is a fantastic experience having the wild reindeer all around you whilst Petris makes the fire. It is clearly is a business for Petri and his family but they really do make it feel like you are visiting them as a family. They do a great job of giving people a feel of what life is like running the reindeer herd.
If you get the chance, do visit - it was the highlight of our trip.

Hello, my son and I will travel in a few months.
I would like to know when it is the best time to visit and enjoy your farm in March, April or May. Which of these three months would be better to visit you?
thanks!!
Written 5 December 2019
Hi, thank You for the message.
We have the reindeer herder's dsy - program available till the end of April. And calfing - program 10th-20th May. They are very dufferend, but in both you get close to the reindeer.
Un March we still have a good winter and I recommend that. The program is still possible in April, but You never know how fast the spring comes and the snow condition change. We do carry out the program then as well.
Welcome to Inari

I'm so attracted to your farm but some of these reindeers look so hungry and skinny. Our family is planning a trip so hope we can come visit. Hope all's well with all the animals and farm.
Written 8 December 2018
Hi, thank you for your message. The reindeer are free animals and they live free in the nature. I don't know which animals seem hungry. Our reindeer are doing fine.
The reindeer find their food in the nature. Sometimes the winter conditions may be hard and the ground gets frozen, then the animals have difficulties to get enough food. But then we offer them extra food in the nature.
We also have a possibility to bring some reindeer home and give them extra care, if they are in crtical condition. This is needeed rarely.
