I loved from the beginning the concept and the decorative details of the museum architectural work.
Perfect choice of materials (wood and cement together), great arrangement of windows, which enhance nature outside.
Exciting experience.

If you mean to read all the information they have to offer, prepare to spend all day :) Otherwise, a couple of hours will do but not less! Lots to see and absorb.
Also, keep in mind there is a trail outside introducing different trees. For some odd reason there is no mention of that.

Nice museum at beautiful and convenient location, just next to Lusto train station. Lots of information about history of forestry and wood industry. Something for the whole family. It's quite large, so better to plan 1-2h for a visit.

Technically a good museum with excellent displays, but sadly very one-sided. In 2021 a museum like this really should include displays and information about the effects harvesting has and has had on the diminishing biodiversity of Finnish forests. As such the museum is an example of the tendency to see nature only as a resource to be exploited. Worth a visit but take all you read with a pinch of salt.

A very good museum but please note that it tells mainly about forest industry, not about the forest itself. Worth visiting, though, if you drive by...

Our hotel owner in Savonlinna suggested we visit this museum and I have to admit that at first we didn't think it sounded that interesting. However, after reading some reviews on TripAdvisor we decided to go for it and we are so glad we did! The museum is absolutely beautiful and the exhibit was fascinating. It provided a lot of insight into the history of Finland more broadly, in addition to the forestry industry. It was one of the highlights of my parents trip to Finland and I highly recommend a visit!

What an amazing place. The museum portrays the interaction between man and the Forrest over the years. It shows how things were done in the early days right up to the present time. This is a total exhibition of everything to do with the timber industry, logging, floating logs, timber mills, machinery ,chainsaws ,furniture manufacturing etc, etc.
The Timber industry has always been important to the Finnish economy. It is interesting to note, that even with the conservation practices now in place, they are still increasing their output each year.they are growing more trees than they harvest which shows that timber is a renewable natural resource, which handled properly can benefit all !
The displays are easy to get around and everything is explained in Finnish and English.
A good restaurant on site, and of course, the mandatory gift shop !

We went to this museum as a bit of a joke having seen a poster of chainsaws somewhere else - going to a chainsaw museum would be strange.
It turned out to be brilliant - the museum is full of really interesting exhibits, well laid out and easy to understand. There is lots about the general history of Finland and it's reliance on the forestry industry.
There was lots for kids as well including a giant tree house to climb around and a real jcb complete with grabber arm to have a go in!

A large museum with several floors. Machines, scale models, historical facts, harvest simulators and lots to do. Excellent choice for kids! Sometimes there are exhibitions at the outside area, too.

The museum itself is very interesting. It explains about the history of logging, & the role wood has played in Finnish life over the years.
We happened to go today & found some special displays outside the museum. There were ladies dying wool with plant dyes. There were people extracting tar from pine wood. There were people shaving shingles from logs to used as roof shingles. There were many wood carvers, who used chain saws to do their carvings with. It was a very interesting & enjoyable day.
