Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful old vicarage building, on a former island. It was built 1869 and it is largest wooden vicarage in Finland. The story behind the name "Kenkävero - shoe tax" is unknown, there are at least three versions, which you can read when you visit the place.
Area has old vicarage building, few old buildings with bakery and shops and some new buildings also. The area is nice for taking a break and having snack at cafe for example.

Nice and unique place to spent some time especially in summer when everything is very beautiful, green gras and flowers. You ca buy some handicrafts, have a cup of coffee or just hang around. Don´t miss this place if you are visiting Mikkeli!

Tasty lunch and a good setting for a cup of coffee. The design shops in the area are rather pricey, though.

A nice place to stop for a coffee break. The environment offers much more than traditional coffee places next to the highway.
Otherwise, on the supply side, the same as the others.
Is it worth stopping by? Depends on the tension.

Drop by Santa's summer cottage and listen to who is being naughty or nice. This is especially nice for the children, and they can meet some animals and try out some workshops. Otherwise there is a good restaurant there which serves traditional foods made with local ingredients. Also a lot of locally produced goods and foods which are often handcrafted can be found in the many small shops there. I think there is a little bit for everyone here, come by alone, with your partner or whith the whole family and have a little cultural experience and try out some treats while you are at it.

The craft village, shop and a restaurant are clustered in a property, which from the road looks like some traditional buildings. In fact, behind the buildings, there is a herbal garden and artisan workshops. The shop has local as well as Finnish hand products, but you will immediately notice a large number of products featuring the botanical paintings done by Ebba Masalin, Mikkeli's own painter.

I walked out the city centre, crossed the bridge that connects the city with motor ways, and followed one of smaller roads with a map in my hand. The walk itself was a pleasant and didn't take much more than 15-20 minutes.

The time was as such that I have decided to have some snack. The restaurant serves typical Finnish buffet (€29) consisting of three courses and coffee in a beautiful house. I wanted something lighter so had apple juice and a quiche which was available from the cafe counter/casher. I took the tray with me to the garden in the back of the building, while the sun was shining, and had lunch looking down at the herbal garden and on to the lake.

Life can be beautiful.

Kenkävero outside Mikkeli is a pleasant place for a stroll in the beautiful garden. Exploring the shops did not result in any findings to mention. We had brunch at the manor, worth the price but qualitywise only so-so.
