Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Don't let the old building fool you, the museum is really worth visiting if you are interested in history and especially ww2. It has good displays about the Finnish civil war as well as the ww2 in Finland. In another building there are some special displays about UN troops etc.

We spent more than an hour at this museum with our children. The scavenger hunt kept our kids highly engaged and we enjoyed the historical aspect of the museum.

A very good overview of the key military strategies of the Finnish army, demonstrating how they overcame being almost always outnumbered, and actually winning many major conflicts.

We visited with our 6 year old on our way from Kuopio to Helsinki. The museum was a nice stop in the middle of a long ride. There was "picture orienteering" for the kids (task: find parts of the exhibit shown in small picture leaflet; special gift for those who find all or thereabouts). Nit very large but good for 1 hour visit. Some parts of exhibits you could walk into (kind of trenches built inside). Couple a few bigger equipment outside. Probably more interesting for boys but it seemed some girls from other families were having good time also. There was a small museum cafe in separate building - coffee, sweets and a few warm dishes for lunch.

Which would be a place of special interest to adults and children on a rainy day? Because there are objects with large and small details in the museum, the children also feel comfortable with it. The museum has given children a mission to look for specific items, after which they receive a small prize. This will help smaller ones to take the time for their parents to become familiar with the objects. Since there is so much to watch, it is worth to take your time for a visit at least 2 to 4 hours. Guidance is available at an extra cost of at least EUR 30, but without that, you can get to know the places very well. There is a cafe near the place. Nearby there is space to park the car.

This infantry museum is situated in the buildings of former army barracs surrounded by beautiful nature just inside of the city. The buildings of this old army base was built in 1880s. The museum collection consists of material and photos of Finnish warhistory, mostly from the epoch of WWI and WWII. I regard this museum as the best of the kind in Finland. In one of the museumbuildings there is a small cafe/restaurant which once used to be the House of the Guard. Absolutely worth visiting!

Mikkeli is a pleasant town to walk, there are several nice places where a person could go, a visit to Cathedral church is always interesting, also is nice to wander trough their square and streets, but if you are interested in the recent history of Finlandia or in the II W.W you should go to Infantry Museum. It is in old Finnish Army barracks. Inside the Museum is possible to see weapons and uniforms used by Germany and Finnish Army during II WW, and the Winter War against the USSR. You can see several documentaries in adittion to models where this Winter battles took place. In my opinion is an atarction who whorth be visited.
After your visit, if you want you can buy a souvenir or maybe, go for a walk across the Museum Gardens, ending you visit drinking a beer or a coffe in the Museum coffee shop.

We visited this interesting museum as a group of experts. However, we found out lot of details which were not commonly known. This museum gives you a very good lay-out about the finnish war history during the last 200 years. We can recommend a visit to this interesting museum.
