Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You can find this carriage next to the Mikkeli railway station.

Marshal Mannerheim and his personnel used this 1930-built carriage in 1939-1946.

The saloon car is open to the public once a year, on June 4. The day is both Mannerheim’s birthday and the Day of Finnish Defence’s Force.

At other times, you can watch through the windows.

It is only open for one day a year (Mannerheim's birthday) but you can get a general idea peering in through the windows, there is an information board with some information, but not much, next to it (also in English). It is right by the train station and does not take long.

In the midst of world war 2 Hitler flew - for a day - to Finland to congratulate the Finnish military hero Mannerheim, on his 75th birthday. It was not something that particularly pleased Mannerheim..
This small battered train carriage sits on the edge of the platform at Mikkeli railway station, and was Mannerheim's office and 'residence' for much of the war years, as was Mikkeli his military centre. It is easy to miss and only opened one day a year, but the story board has a photo of that meeting, and the carriage is a quietly significant reminder of Finland's war history.

Marshall Mannerheim, Commander-in-Chief of the Finnish Armed Forces during the Winter War and World War II used this train saloon car with a saloon, a kitchen and 5 sleeping compartments with beds for 8 persons. In the saloon he discussed 4th July 1942 with Adolf Hitler, who had come to celebrate Mannerheims birthday. The private dissussion was recorded and is the only know tape of that kind. The saloon is open only once a year 4th July.

This Saloon Car is the actual car, which C.G Mannerheim used during the WW2. It stands at the Mikkeli Railway Station year around, but only once every year, 4th of June it's open for public. That day is Mannerheim's birthday. Don't miss it if you are there then.

This is the traveling coach of Mannerheim at the central railway station. Once it turned into a museum, it is opened for visiting only once a year, but you can easily see the interior from the large windows and get familiar with how one of the most important figures of the Finnish history used to spend his time.

Worth visiting.

This historical saloon car is situated adjacent to the Mikkeli station platform. From the platform one can peer through the windows at the decorative interior. However, although this wonderful vehicle might appropriately be located in Mikkeli - the town in which Field Marshall Mannerheim had his wartime headquarters, somehow its location does not do it justice. Even though the town of Mikkeli has sensibly provided the coach with a roof awning to match the architectural style of the new bus/rail interchange station, it would have been far more sensible to house this priceless vehicle indoors. The former engine shed not far away is not in use - that would be a far more sensible location for this coach for the following reasons.
a. It would provide long-term protection and preservation indoors in a heated building.
b. The whole vehicle could be seen.
c. Better lighting could be provided for viewing the interior. .

The Mannerheim´s Saloon car is open for visitors only once a year and day is our marshall´s birthday the 4.th of June. Then you can walk through the saloon and see how Mannerheim
travelled in his Saloon car. Interesting, I do recommend.
