Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Since June 2019, this art museum has been at a temporary location on the 2nd floor of the Akseli shopping center.

I am sure the exhibition in the permanent location has much more to offer.

Easy to get and cheap pricing 6 euro per an adult. Granit stone building on the opposite site of the Mikkeli Cathedral. Museum shop as well.

I was little doubtful about this art museum first... little Finnish town museum: what can it give to me? Luckily I was totally wrong and happy that I popped in. They have permanent exhibitions: one with old Finnish paintings (some gems also included) and collector's furniture from old times and one with sculptures. And the museum has also contemporary exhibitions beside the permanent collections. Many art pieces to see and nice to wander around the premises. Also the building is quite fascinating, I would say jugend style, stone building. Recommend!

There are both permanent and visiting exhibitions. The museum seems to be quite popular and of high quality. The permanent collection is based on a private collection that has been donated to the city. It has many works from the Finnish masters. The visiting exhibition was from one of the Finnish young talents, Emma Ainala. Her works are very visual painted in pastel colours. But don't be fooled by colours, the works are not as pleasing as the colours promise. Some might find them disturbing and provoking. Definitely, there is a strong message behind those works so worth taking another look and think.

The museum is 5 mins walk from the city center and it is right in front of Mikkeli Cathedral.

During out visit there was a temporary exhibition about Kari Piippo's work. It included graphic designs, stamps and posters made by Kari Piippo.

In addition there was also an exhibition about beach and island for children which we did not see it properly as we had to leave in a hurry.
