The museum is in an old granary which is 12-15 minutes' walk from the city center.
There are several rooms full of objects relating to history and life in old times in Mikkeli. The objects are mostly from 1920's and 30's. The exhibition depicts life indoor and outdoor in those times. On display are items including wooden and metal utensils, wooden skis, sledges, fishing equipments, costumes etc. There is also a small section about postal services and fire fighting.
It was sad to learn that in the past this museum has struggled for premises and has been closed down several times.
