Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A block of old houses, some of them built originally on the spot, some moved later. Just the inner yard is worth a visit, you can get a sense of what it was like to live in a wooden town. Although I think they could put more thought into the yard itself, there were some old plants (herbs, lilacs, currants), but mostly it's just grass cut short with lawn mower. There were no lawn mowers in the old times, perhaps they could have more wild flowers/grasses in some areas? Inside there are displays of homes of different professionals (tailor, shoemaker etc) and an art exhibition.

Very nice to see how people in this area of Finland used to life.
There is enough English explanation. The map of all the buildings has an English insert. And in every room there are folders with English explanation about the items etc.
Worth the vist.
Nice to see that the staff walks around in authentic clothing.
The only thong not being explained was the exhibition area.

Somewhere in my subconscious mind I'd expected the place to be drab but once I stepped into the courtyard and started looking through the different homes set up to show how the residents of the past lived, it starts getting interesting.
I particularly enjoyed the old-time pharmaceutical shop and medicine making building with all the bottles and machinery from days of yore.
The other thing I enjoyed was the cafe. My hotel was nearby and I found myself going there again just to sit and read under the sun. They have local cakes and tarts as well as tea and coffee.
Before I forget, you can purchase a three-museum ticket for 14 euro. The card is valid for a year and you get to visit each museum one time. Buy it from the ticket counter.

Fascinating peek into the lives of people living in Kuopio in former times. In summer 2015 there was a special exhibition on the interiors of the 1950s.
The museum consists of 11 old wooden houses the oldest dating back to the 18th century.
The museum also has a lovely cafe (no entrance fee if you only want to visit the cafe). Had one of the best chocolate cheesecakes ever here.
Definite must if you are at all into history and curious about how people lived only some 100 years ago.

How did Kuopio look like at 1700 century? Here you can get some idea of it. When visiting at summer, this is absolutely one of the best places to enjoy the cafe garden, that is in the middle of the museum area.

In this Old Kuopio Museum you don't have to expect glitter and glamour.
The museum wants to show how life was in the first decennia of the twentieth century.
With your entrance ticket you get a route map of the buildings with a description. The lady at the reception also gives you a lot of interesting information of which I'm thankful.
The museum consist of +/- 10 small buildings. Each of them reflects a building from its time:
there is a pharmacy, a tailor's house, a house of a rich man and so on. In the main building the history of Kuopio is given by an excellent timeline. In some buildings there's also a temporary art exhibition.
If you want to know how life was in 1900, this is your place.

This museum consists of eleven old wooden houses in the neighborhood of the oldest urban settlement in Kuopio.
The buildings are from the late 1700s to the late 1800s. The interiors show how people in Kuopio used to live.
There is also a pharmacy museum and a room dedicated to the renowned local author Minna Canth.
On our visit, there was a temporary exhibition 'Minna Canth's Kuopio'. This exhibit contained objects belonging to the author and his family.
