About
The Puijo tower is an observation tower at the top of Puijo hill in Kuopio, Eastern Finland. Opened in 1963, the tower is 75 metres (246 ft) tall and has a revolving restaurant with 100 seats and a beutiful cafe. It was the first tower with a revolving restaurant in the Nordic countries. The current Puijo tower has been visited by over 5.5 million tourists. The current tower is the third overall. When it was completed in 1963 the second one, built in 1906, was dismantled. The first tower was built in 1856. On the western side of the tower there are three ski jumping hills.

Puijo Tower is a 75-meter-high observation tower at the top of Puijo hill. It was opened in 1963.

There are a cafe and a restaurant on the top of the tower with stunning panoramic views. There is a 7-euro entrance fee.

Puijo Tower was the first tower with a revolving restaurant in the Nordic countries.

You can walk to the tower from Kuopio city center. The climb is quite steep and it takes 40 minutes. Or take bus number 10 from the marketplace.

On the western side are stairs next to the ski jumping hills. We descended that way back to the city center.

This tower gives a very good view over Kuopio and the surrounding area. You can see all the lakes with their islands so it is a view you don't get from similar towers in other countries, or even other ones in Finland.

Nice view over Kuopio. A bit overpriced in my opinion though. Best views are from outside, take the stairs up from the cafeteria.

We were lucky with the weather & the tower offered ridiculously good views in all directions. An added novelty was the views onto the ski jumps, allowing you to get an idea of what it must feel like to be about to set off down one. Took the steps with 9-yr old boys rather than the lift just for the adventure which was good for burning off some energy before filling them with doughnuts (overpriced, day old) at the top. (Brilliant views from the cafe too, with seating running around the 360-degree windows)

This 75 meters high observation tower was built in 1963. You see very beautiful forest, lake and city views here (city lights also when it is dark). The cafeteria on the top of the tower has same opening hours as the tower itself. The first rotating restaurant in the Northern Countries was built here but it has different opening hours. If you have a table reservation to the rotating restaurant, you don't need to pay the entrance fee to the tower. We ate extremely delicious carrot cake in the cafeteria. There is also a small nature exhibition (a wolf, a bear and an elk) next to the ticket sale desk. Remember to take part in exciting activities in Puijo: hiking (I recommend Puijonsarvi lean-to shelter), mountain biking, trail running, stair walking (Puijo Stairs next to ski-jumping hills), disc golf (frisbee golf), cross-country skiing (good tracks from the cross-country skiing stadium) etc. The owners of the rotating restaurant also have a renovated restaurant named Puijon Maja (read separate TripAdvisor reviews) next to the tower. So I think that there is something for everybody in Puijo Tower or next to it. However, the beautiful scenery from the top of the tower was the most interesting thing for me.

Puijo tower cafe and restaurant was closed for few months, but it seems to be worth of waiting. Cafe looks nice with "forest" on the wall and kind of 60's decoration. Coffee, donuts and other stuff were good. But number one is view, it's just great. Lakes and forrest everywhere and also nice view to town of Kuopio. Must also visit at restaurant some day.

This tower sits above the township and offers good views. Went up by lift and walked down the steps. Also situated near the ski jumps. These were worth a look.

I visited the newly renovated cafe and got a peek at the soon ready restaurant. The new look is beautiful. The cafe and the restaurant are located on different top floors. In both you can walk around the floor and have a 360° view over the city through large windows.

The cafe has some delicious but relatively expensive Finnish pastries, both sweet and savory. I'm looking forward to seeing the restaurant menu. The restaurant's renovation should be done by the time I write this review.

Down in the lobby there are some real filled Finnish animals next to a small souvenir shop that is in conjunction with the reception. The number of souvenirs is much smaller than it used to be and they aren't necessarily local, so I would probably not recommend this as the number one choice for souvenir shopping.

The entrance fee to the tower for adults is 6€. There is an elevator, and stairs for those who want to get some exercise.

The tower was being renovated during our visit, so I'm looking forward to coming again for the renovated cafe and restaurant. It has some of the most beautiful views especially on a sunny day or evening.
