Great place. Shops everywhere and cafes everywhere. I find it to be a very busy area, with a lot of people walking around, but also very safe from what i saw. However, we are staying in skanstull so we are close to sodermalm and come through it everyday.

Usually described as the hipster district of Stockholm, good place for eating out and grabbing a beer in the evening, there are even some places with very acceptable prices. Also two good viewpoints towards the Old Town. My favourite part is around Mariatorget, especially North of it. Arriving by underground, get off at Mariatorget or Medborgarplatsen instead of Slussen for... More

We stayed in Sodermalm for a week during our stay in Stockholm, near the Slussen station. Everyday, apart from travelling out to visit other areas in Stockholm, we spent most of the time walking around the north of Sodermalm, exploring, shopping and eating.

While less romantic than the gamla stan (Old Town) yet only a few minutes walk from there, Södermalm is an active place with lots of young folks around. Good restaurants and pubs.

We enjoyed our visits to Sodermalm, the hip, trendy south district/island that is filled with creative restaurants and cafes, unique shops & vintage stores & galleries. Fjällgatan and Monteliusvägen viewpoints are located on Sodermalm and offer some of the best views overlooking the beautiful city of Stockholm.

The island is walkable with great waterfront paths. Green spaces everywhere and children's parks even have warming houses. The shops are small and unique. Easy subway and bus commute. Buildings are old, well maintained and colorful

We had a great time here while in town last winter. Because of the snow there were almost no cars around, just people walking. It was terrific.

We went to Stockholm for Eurovision and stayed in this neighbourhood as it was walking distance to the arena. Great spot, with lots of excellent bars (even if your beer is super pricy, Sweden), cafes, cute shops and lovely streets. Very accessible to all parts of the city.

Being a big fan of the Millennium books I've known about Södermalm for a long time and was excited to visit. We spent a lot of time here, did the Millennium book tour and ate in a couple of great restaurants, visited cool shops. It's just a really great place to wander around and is very cool and chilled. Staying in Slussen

Neighbourhood Profile
A unique mix of grotesque 1960s concrete urban vision and cosy historical Swedish brick houses, Slussen has become one of Stockholm’s most architecturally edgy and controversial neighborhoods. Plans to rebuild the area have been on the agenda for decades, however, so far no agreement could be reached, which is the reason for the continuing decay of its brutalist substance. Nevertheless, the museums and the main shopping street, Götgatan, attract both locals and tourists with Sweden’s most fashion-forward clothing retailers, hipster coffee shops and restaurants. Once the lights are out, the area turns into a bustling nightlife haven, catering to all preferences, from posh hotel bars to sweaty underground nightclubs. There is no better place to experience the clash between old and new Sweden.
