The area
Neighbourhood: Norrmalm
Norrmalm is Stockholm’s most central and busiest neighborhood. It’s home to the main shopping street, Drottninggatan, and to Stockholm icons like the Sergels Torg glass obelisk, the famous Hay Market with its Carl Milles sculptures, and the Hötorget Skyscrapers, a sight on every other Stockholm postcard. Norrmalm is also home to Sweden’s most traditional department stores Nordiska Kompaniet and Åhléns City juxtaposed with Stockholm’s most modern shopping mall, Mood Stockholm. Visitors to this area get to experience the unique Swedish philosophy of protecting cultural heritage while also staying on top of fashion innovation and modern architecture.

Great place to shop
Jan 2020
Good atmosphere with great variations of shops, cafes, and restaurants. A little bit crowded, but absolutely in a good way, not that you just-can't-move-and-want-to-get-out sorta way.

Lots of Good Quality Shops In About A Quarter Mile
Oct 2019
Some quality shops along a central pedestrian street catering to locals and tourists. Probably one of the better places to shop in Stockholm for the average tourist.
Plenty of restaurants if you have the need...

Cold, difficult
Sep 2019
This street has same chain stores that every Northern European country got (except Åhlens) so its boring to see this street. Many stores got negative workers who upset if foreigners try to return (even when got receipt it didn't matter here) I found most sellers attitude negative especially in H&M. Most of them were happy if you buy especially when you buy+go but if return they became cold. Usually everywhere else it is still possible to return or change clothes if clothes were new+got recipe but here not. This experience I would not expect +weather will be cold there is usually frozen wind. Next time hope to visit more customer friendly places, in Sweden little cities were more friendly to me.

Vibrant and safe

Very lively street, which has a lot to offer to shoppers. Very safe for pedestrians. I just wish there were more benches to rest on.

Pedestrian street lined with shops
May 2019 • Couples
This is a busy pedestrian street in Norrmalm lines with many shops including quite a few gift shops. It’s nice that the city has turned this into a pedestrian street and we used it often to walk from Gamla Stan to our hotel, but we didn’t find it that memorable. There are a number of souvenir shops along this street. Our favorite shop was the Karamel sweet shop, with fantastic Swedish sweets.

Queen Street
Jul 2018 • Solo
My wife hadn't come along, so shopping was not the theme, but I walked through this famous pedestrianised shopping street to go to the Stadsbibliotek, which is reached from the northern end of Drottininggatan over the observatory hill. En route one passes the August Strindberg Museum on Drottninggatan 85, the house where Sweden's famous playwright lived, but it was too early, when I passed by there to visit.

The only place here I went shopping once, was the big Ahlens department store at the point, where Drottinggatan meets Klarabergsgatan, and then I remembered from the news that this had been the corner, where a deadly terrorist attack by truck had occurred in April 2017. Now one can see that special measures have been taken to block the street for any big vehicles ramming through.
