The Royal Armoury (Livrustkammaren) is a popular family museum located in the cellars of the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The Royal Armoury shows the history of Sweden’s kings and queens from the 15th century until to day.For almost five hundred years items once in the possession of Swedish monarchs and their families have been kept in the Royal Armoury. From generation to generation, they have built up an ever-expanding collection of memories from the country's different dynasties, evoking well-known events in Swedish history.See, for example, the costume worn by Gustav III at that fateful masked ball in 1792, Charles XII's muddy uniform from Fredriksten in 1718, and the blood-stained shirts and elk-hide buff coat worn by Gustav II Adolf at the Battle of Lützen in 1632.

A quick tour at the museum was great. My children learned a lot about the history of the Swedish Monarchs. Well preserved armouries, clothings and carriages.

Entrance to the Royal Palace is charged, however surprisingly entrance to the royal armory is free. Slightly less obvious entrance down some steps, when you wander through you can take in awe the historical armours worn by previous Swedish Royals across some 400 years. There...More

Very interesting exhibit of old royal armours or the royalties and their horses, royal clothing, small royal children's clothes. The heavy, woven armours for horses are amazing. For the season, we even saw an exhibit of katanas. A must see when you are in Stockholm....More

What better way to understand Stockholm and Sweden's history than by visiting the Royal Armory. Displaying more than just weapons, you get to see fashion, carriages and the history of the Royal Family and Sweden. With English translations, it is easy to understand what is...More

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)
