Dating back to the 13th century, this church has a distinct character and history. It is the oldest in the Old Town and is home to several relics as well as an impressive statue of Saint George fighting the Dragon. Storkyrkan can pique almost anyone's curiosity, not just the history buff's.

Right next to the Royal palace, the cathedral strikes you with its simplicity. Once inside, however, I was surprised by the "warm&welcoming" feeling that it gave me: the golden decorations, the brownish color of the bricks and the beige of the walls, the dark yellow...More

There is much imagery of power in Stockholm as various figures in history used it to tell of their own prowess, bravery, importance. Here an amazing statue of St George slays the dragon. The dragon represents the Danish King Christian 1st, so the princess would...More

An interesting interior with exposed bricks. It is not your typical protestant cathedral, it is very interesting and quite recommendable to visit.

Coming across the Cathedral on my first day, I was thrilled to see a notice advertising an organ recital that evening. All Bach. Magnificent.

We had an outstanding English guided tour of this stunning church with Walter as our guide. I had vowed not to spend my time in Europe in cathedrals, but I'm so glad I spent a couple hours here. To top things off, while we there...More

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)

The visitor centers in Uppsala and Stockholm are incredibly helpful. Check out the schedules posted throughout both cities. The train stations are a great place to find good venues. Lots of beautiful music everywhere!
