We traipsed around until we found this nice old church, with its gaudy new organ, and interesting bit of German history in Stockholm. The copper spire is lovely, and the bells you hear around Gamla Stan originate here in their carillon.

I went into this church on a rainy day, which likely contributed to my lack of appreciation for the interior. It was so dim that I couldn't find a place that was light enough to read my guide. Much dark wood contributed to the overall...More

I visited the church during the Early Music Festival in June and attended the performance by the Swingle Singers. While sitting in my pew I admired the beautiful artwork and woodwork inside the church, and marveled at the perfect acoustics while the Swingles sang. What...More

A very old church from outside, poorly taken care of, but inside is a hiddel gem. The church has quite short visiting hours due to repair work taken inside, but it has a lot of history to tell, and a fantastic architector inside. Check the...More

We tried to visit early during our stay but it was closed, we finally made it Saturday afternoon and frankly I was not overly impressed. My husband liked it but I much preferred The Cathedral which we visited early in the week. I found it...More

Looks like a standard church building on the outside but when you enter there is a sensory overload. Art and Craftsmanship are stunning.

Located in historic Gamla Stan, Tyska Kyrkan (Old German Church) is a magnificent remnant of the Germanic influence that existed in medieval Stockholm. The church spire marks the highest point in Stockholm's Old Town. Don't miss the King's Gallery, the magnificent Gilded organ, the southern...More

Hard to imagine more beautiful painted glas windows or gilded sculptures etc. than in this church. Breathtaking.

This is one of the smaller churches to be seen in the old town part of Stockholm in the Gamla Stan district. When I visited it was already early evening and so the church itself was closed. Still looks good from the outside though.

It was stunning. It is easy to find, free entrance and a place to stop and admire the inside. I was more amazed of the windows, which were painted in a very vivid way.

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)
