On the road from Rethymnon to the southcoast (Phaistos, Matala, ect.) you will pass the little mountain-village: Spili. Take a rest here. It is an idyllic little village. The Church is quite new and very fine. When you are in Spili: Don't forget the Lion Fountain and the Folk Museum.

When we visited Spili we noted in out Lonely Planet that this monastery was open to the public to wander round. The arcitecture is beautiful and the views are stunning. Well worth a visit.

A lovely village up in the hills which you can go to by bus or car. This lovely church and its grounds are worth a visit. They are very picturesque and the views around of the hills are lovely to. Whilst in the village also visit the lion fountains and the folk museum tucked away behind the houses.

The church was 30 km to south from Rethymno, approximately in the middle of the island of Crete. It is worth a visit to go there. There are many fine church buildings, which also... More
