Decided to take friends - off road route - as they couldn't book a jeep safari and I recall this being a feature of the last one I took 30 years ago, and my range rover should be up to the job. So after the...More

Considering the heavy rains the last month, the road up was in surprisingly good condition. It has been widened, probably due to the equipment brought up for the tower renovation. The castle is often closed but you can get a good view from the path at...More

We could not go into the castle as they are renovating it. The location is beautiful and the castle very interesting. We tried the website that was listed to find out more about restorations efforts. However we could not get this site to load.

I checked on various websites for opening times and found out only open on Wednesdays. We drove to Paderne today (Wed 14 Feb) and bumped along the dirt track. Parked under the noisy A22 and walked up the hill. The Castle was ...closed. The tower...More

When we visited we did that on a guided tour. The castelo is closed and access with guide was obtained via the archeological office in Albufeira. Note that there are no restrooms.

Very disappointed it was closed to the public. I would guess by all the scaffolding and barred access gates that some restoration work is being carried out but its a pity there were no notices advising visitors what was happening.

Let's start with getting to the Paderne Castle. In itself, it can be an adventure as the dusty and bumpy road is not the most pleasant. Secondly, the castle is closed and only opens on request. Thirdly, it is a ruin with not much to...More

Not far off the main road this is a nice place to visit and explore some of the past. Mostly derelict now but has good background information and is situated among lovely countryside and great walking.

Charming ruin with fantastic views. Castle has been thoughtfully preserved with concrete to save it from further collapse. Interesting history and puts the regions culture into perspective.

Open Wednesdays and a good historical site in the Algarve. Here you can learn the history of Portugal in the archeological digs in the Castle grounds.
