This hippy enclave is an alternative community unto itself, with local handicrafts and a disproportionate number of vegetarians, artists and young people. Go for a walk around the lake or check out one of the watering holes. Best to visit during the day.

Dont go near this area. All they want is to sell their illegal stuff and they are being very hostile when you dont intend to buy anything.

We visited Christina middle of the day and it was crawling with tourists. It did not seem to have the vibe that I expected. It was very run down and nobody was very friendly. Right after we went through pusher street we heard a lot of commotion and a big crowd formed about the time we decided it was time... More

I just loved it. It has its own spirit that you can not find anywhere else. It was very good experience and for sure I want to return again. It is not for everybody, but it wsd definitely place of my taste. Unfortunately, you can not take pictures, but what you will see will stay in yourbmijd forever.

This was a really cool place to visit. There is great art around and a cool vibe. We spent the sunny afternoon drinking beer and squash while listening to jazz music in the sun outside "The Moon". My Danish friend brought me here, and I'm glad I'd local info. It would probably be hard to know where you can and... More

Read about Christiania before you visit. You can't go here as part of a tour as the residents don't like it - not surprising. It has a very interesting history. It's like a gated community but you can just walk in and wander through, no one seems to mind. And if you want to stop and have a drink (or... More

I walked here after visiting the street food which was not too far away. it was interesting to see a different side to copenhagen. I was lucky the weather was on my side, i am not sure how nice it would have been otherwise. I had a no.16 ale reccomended by the locals. A cheap dark beer but super tasty!... More

Christiania is something else, a hippie type town where the residents are for the common good. Very colorful and full of lively people. We only stayed a short while but would recommend seeing this place if you have a chance. Tip: Do not take pics of people/things on Pusher Street. The residents on that Street in particular won't take kindly... More

Really interesting place, where its forbidden to take pictures. Police have restricted access to this place. Inside there is lots of good vibe, you can walk around the lagoon and understand the story of the area, part of a kind of hippie movement of sharing and live in happiness. Inside you can find several stands to buy marihuana. Really interesting... More

I have been to quite a number of places, but not like that. First of all it is worth seeing and beign there, just to catch a glimpse of the subculture. Secondly, if you accept smoking that is a top place for you to visit and enjoy. Thirdly, I'd strognly recommend you to make a tour around this place, because... More

Staying in Christianshavn

Neighbourhood Profile
Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By, you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century, and canals which are home to many boats and ships, some of which has been turned into restaurants or even serve as fully furnished homes. The best known attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free town” of residents who squat on a former military area. However just a stone’s throw away from Christiania, you’ll find some of the most fashionable waterfront apartment buildings in Copenhagen as well as the splendid Royal Opera House.
