Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is the house of the artists and shows exhibitions that are produced, initiated or chosen by artists. Den Frie is especially focused on contemporary artistic communities, collective exhibitions, artists associations and experimental groups and networks. The house is built by artists for artists and today strives to make an interesting and varied exhibition programme, that challenges the exceptional architecture of the building. 10 exhibitions are shown each year, most of them group exhibitions. Apart from those, soloexhibitions with either younger, promising artists or artists, that have made important contributions to art history are presented.

The exhibition was very small and there were just a few works displayed. Furthemore, if you're walking it's quite far from other attractions or museums so it's not really worth the trip.

The building in itself if very interesting and the cafe downstairs is lovely. However, this exhibition was definitely not to the standard I was hoping for. Since we had the Copenhagen Card we didn't actually paid to visit and would've greatly regretted it if we...More

This cafe is in the basement of the Centre of Contemporary Art. I had a tuna salad roll, Rose wine, pain au chocolat and coffee. The chef/owner is a lovely friendly guy who was interesting to talk to. He gave me some interesting info about...More

Museum Den Frie presents the exhibtion Den Frie Udstilling in March/April every year. Some years it is really great, other years it is not worth the time. This year (2017) it was a mix. Some extremely nice things and some not so nice. The rooms...More

Based opposite the Osterport train station building and across the street from the Nyboder Housing Project, it was a strange gallery which was a bit hit and miss for me. I wasn't inspired or impressed by anything being exhibited and the café looked a bit...More

Unfortunately this was one of the low points of our Copenhagen 3 day break. It wasn't the building itself that was the problem but the content. We saw the 80th anniversary exhibition - one can only hope that the previous 79 were rather better. Try...More

They had a nice exhibition about skin colour and it was interesting but it only takes about 10-15 mins to walk through the 5/6 rooms and there wasn't enough in each room to hold your attention. Still for the admission price I felt it was...More

I have visited Den Frie many times during the past years. The art is excellent and presented in a building that seems to amplify the natural light. The building is built very close to the original old Osterport entrance into Copenhagen. People have rightly observed...More

Honestly 60 dkk for this piece is a bit too much. It takes exactly 10 minutes to look at the whole place, all I saw was some things scattered on the floor and then a 10 minute movie being screened over and over again. I...More

I liked Den Frie, but if you don't usually appreciate modern art, this is not the place for you. I felt like it was a bit expensive for how small it was, but I did enjoy what was on display.

This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its
blend of charming old buildings and bold new
architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well
as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner
city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which
consists of three buildings, two of which are new and
situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and
venues of the inner city and its surrounding
