This beautiful church is across the water (Slotsholms Canal) from the Borsen (stock exchange) and was very quiet in terms of tourists when I visited on a Saturday morning. It is quite plain looking from the outside, but inside it is wonderful in terms of the architecture and is full of baroque furniture. Most of the church is about almost... More

King Christian 4's old Church formed like a cross contains fine baroque furniture fra around 1680 besides a wing with memorials for various naval heroes such as Jens Juel and Tordenskjold

The Holmens Kireke or Church of the Royal Navy in Copenhagen, looks like the ugly duckling on the inside but turns into a beautiful swan upon entering. Do not be fooled by its outside appearance and have a look inside. Beautiful and captivating.

From the outside, this church does not seem to offer very much, but once inside you will find an absolutely fantastic building. It is the only renaissance church in Copenhagen, built in 1562 as a naval forge and converted to a church in 1619. The Baroque altar piece is very ornate and there is a really grand pulpit. Also very... More

It's a nice old church which if you are walking Copenhagen you will probably pass several time. It is interesting and the inside looks very nice. The architecture is interesting and it only takes a few minutes.

Nice and central. I preferred the inside more than the inside. Really interesting and original, plus you just can't help finding it because of its position.

The Sailors' Church used to be a foundry built by King Frederik 2nd, but changed by King Christian 4th into a Church in 1619! It has a fine altarpiece in Wood carved in 1662 and a pulpit from 1663 besides many shipmodels and epitaphs. In the adjoining chapel there are grave monuments to naval heroes like Tordenskjold and Niels Juel

Beautiful church built for the sailors of Denmark. Old and nicely decorated with a maritime feel. I can recommend it to all.

A fun stop that you'll be glad you took a moment for another church. It has a unique feel compared to glitzy ornate churches so I enjoyed that. The man overseeing that day was full of info and was glad to share. He was a lot of fun to listen to. From what I can tell it may not be... More

This lovely Church is located directly across from the Christiansborg Palace. It was built by King Christian IV, and is devoted to the "sailors" of Denmark. Many famous sailors from the past were ceremoniously buried here. You can see the memorials for naval heroes (Niels Juel and Tordenskjold), and past ships. Hanging from the ceiling is a replica of a fully-rigged... More
