About
Christiansborg Palace is situated on the little island of Slotsholmen (Castle Island) which is surrounded by canals in the heart of Denmark's capital, Copenhagen. Denmark has one of the oldest monarchies in the world, and the palace has a long, dramatic history which revolves around the exercise of royal power. Today, Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. Under its beautiful copper roof, the palace houses the Danish parliament, the office of the Danish prime minister and the Supreme Court. It is therefore the center for legislative, executive and judicial power in Denmark. The palace also accommodates rooms for the Danish Monarchy. Focusing on the royal part of the palace, Christiansborg Palace is H.M. the Queen's working palace. This is where the Queen holds audiences, signs laws, holds banquets and receptions, celebrates royal anniversaries and receives state visits. It is a working palace where old traditions and the modern Royal Family meet. You will see dazzling halls, adorned with colorful tapestries, vast paintings, patterned floors, glittering chandeliers, and sumptuous stucco ceilings. You can explore The Royal Kitchen and see its two tons of shiny copper kitchenware. You can visit the beautiful palace chapel, stand underneath its dome and let your head spin as you gaze up at the angels in the ceiling décor more than 30 metres above you. In The Royal Stables you'll find the the white royal horses in the wintertime, and in the summertime the exhibition "All the kings' horses" - all year around you can see the Royal Family's array of carriages. One of them is coated with 24-carat gold leaf. You can also explore the underground ruins underneath Christiansborg Palace. These are ruins of earlier castles and palaces showing that the Castle Island is steeped in 800 years of power and political intrigue.

While visiting Copenhagen, we saw Amalienborg, Rosenborg and Christiansborg palaces. Of all these, my favorite was Christiansborg, especially the library. The palace is more modern and whimsical than the other three and still in use today. There is also a lookout that you can access with your admission ticket for a view of the city.

Initially we planned to go inside Frederiksberg Palace but it was closed. So we headed to Christiansborg Palace, which is also the Parliament building. It was a little tricky to find the entrance however once I dude it was easy to navigate around either with the audio guide or the information plaques throughout. An added bonus was visiting the castle ruins which is just on the left hand side of the entrance as you come out of the building. This is a must see!

We explored parts of this giant palace, but unfortunately the main rooms were closed for a special event. We did get to see the old kitchen area and the stables and the chapel.

Christiansborg Palace is indeed a gorgeous place worth the visit. The history conveyed as you tour the palace is amazing. You will see much of the important history of the Danish realm and monarchs through the years. The art here, especially the tapestries, are alone worth the price of admission. Take your time and soak in Danish culture and history!

Absolutely stunning palace. The inside was clean and very bright. The history and things to see were amazing and the staff were very friendly. My only gripe was that we were asked where we were from and it was marked down and then we were asked to put the blue shoe covers on but it seemed like it was only people from other countries that were asked to do this. May have just been us but that’s what we noticed. It certainly didn’t alter our visit to this lovely place though. Would recommend this to anyone visiting Copenhagen

Definitely a lovely castle, and the old residence of the Royal Family. You can get a ticket that lets you into the stables, the underground, the royal reception rooms and the kitchens, or use the Copenhagen card.

I thought the royal reception halls and the underground ruins were really nice to see, the stables were alright and the kitchen wasn't so interesting, so I'd prioritise them in that order.

You can also climb to the top of the tower for free, but I didn't know this at the time. Either way, it was a nice visit to see the palace and the history, but if you're pressed for time I'd prioritise Rosenborg and the crown jewels.

We spent several hours here and found the various areas totally absorbing. Loved the stables with the beautiful horses and numerous royal carriages, the state rooms with the amazing tapestries, and the roomy bright kitchens. One big omission however was anywhere to get a quick drink of water or cup of tea. There was a restaurant but it didn’t look open and seemed to be more fine dining . We asked about a cafe and were told in the summer they have a catering van outside but nothing in the winter. Even the ice cream fridges in the gift shop were empty. We all started to feel quite dehydrated which was a shame and slightly spoilt our visit.

Like everyone else we bought a ticket covering everything and we weren’t disappointed

The add on attractions such as the tower, ruins and stables were worth coming for by themselves, and the palace itself is amazing

A must see

Lovely visit.
Definitely worth a visit while at Copenhagen.
2 tickets for 2 adults came to £41 and I would say it was well worth it.
The palace takes a while to walk round, in addition to this you have the kitchens, lower architecture and stables to visit with your ticket.
We got to see the royal horses in their stables.
Definitely worth going to.
