Crazy to stand on top of the church

The short walk from the parking area is nice. The church looks really cute from the distance. While it doesn't seem like much, you can enter the church from the front entrance and... read more

If you are expecting an old church, you'll be dissapointed, if you are expecting a beautiful building, you'll be dissapointed. This building is both compelling and fascinating because of what it is and what isn't there. It's just a plain tower with a harbour view out in the middle of the sand dunes. It's the history that brings it alive... More

The short walk from the parking area is nice. The church looks really cute from the distance. While it doesn't seem like much, you can enter the church from the front entrance and go up for a little view over the area. Be careful though, the steps are spiral and very tight! Be sure to view the photo of the... More

I must say that my expectations was a bit higher as I heard of the Church "berried into sand", but coming there was not "that great experience". But as my heading says, it's OK to have been there, especially as we stayed at Color Skagen Hotel, which is only 1 kilometer away.

Interesting story and otherwise just a building away from anywhere else and sticking up from some sandy hill. It is worth 10 minutes of your time for pictures and the story, but not worth going far out of your way for. You have been warned.

In all frankness it's just a church tower in the middle of nowhere. It's not particularly sanded over but it has a certain charm. We biked there, took a few pictures and ate an ice cream and biked further out on the dunes. If you don't have a car/bike/rollerblades or something don't worry, it's not super important to see in... Not quite sure this is worth the detour. The cafe and ice cream parlor was great though, very friendly service. The church itself has a spectacular history but all you can see is a church tower - that's it.

A quiet slightly meditative spot to spend a morning. It's impressive what faith can do: the deconstructed it brick by brick, parts numbered. One day they will rebuild it. I am pretty sure of that.

The story of this church (see previous reviews) is more impressive than the actual sight of the remaining tower, but it is a lovely walk through the woods to get there (~1.5km). By the way, I did not go up the stairs inside the church tower.

During the last half of the 18th century the church was partially buried by sand. The struggle to keep the church free of sand lasted until 1795, when it was abandoned after wards the church was demolished. The only part of the original structure that still standing is the Tower with crow-stepped gable. Honestly, I do not feel to suggest... More

A nice short detour while on our way to Skagen. You have to be very careful on the narrow stairs up the tower - especially coming back down. But definitely worth the view og Skagen to climb the stairs.
