We have been fortunate to have travelled quite extensively in Denmark, and there is still much more to see. One place that we had not really spent much time in, was the island of Fyn. Nestled in between the island of Sjaelland and the mainland, Jylland, it was often just a place we travelled through to get to the other side. On this trip, we were going to commit ourselves to a weeklong stay. How we settled on staying in Bogense was just one of pure luck. It might have been partially due to the fact that we just started planning the trip last minute and that there were not many summer house rentals available. This was of course due to the restrictions caused by Covid and that Denmark had just given the okay for us travellers to enter the country. Also, because of the worldwide travel restrictions, the Danes were taking "stay at home vacations". But as it turned out, our lack of choices didn't hinder us, but actually helped us. Our little rental by the "sea" was so very nearly perfect that we are going back this year, only for two weeks this time.
Bogense is a lovely, wonderful little town. Its half-timbered houses, narrow streets filled with nice shops and restaurants lend itself to a perfect, relaxing holiday. The fact that it is also home to Fyn's largest marina, gives those travelling by boat, also a great spot to 'tank" up and settle in for a nice visit. The marina has shops and great "eating" spots for both sailors and landlubbers. The new marina has room for 700 yachts and there are facilities to accommodate those with families, a child friendly beach and a nice playground. There are spots at the "guest harbour' in the marina, well equipped with tables/benches and grills. This is all located only ten minutes from the town centre. Conveniently located here is the NordFyn's Tourist Bureau. You can, of course, receive all the information you need about the town and the area, as well as availing yourself to the free wifi. The office, as well as open regular hours, is also open all year round for self service. I am not sure if the doors are open 24 hours a day, but they certainly are open past the regular opening hours. Check to see what these are, as it varies upon the time of year. The wifi is always available, inside or outside.
There are many things to see and do in this town and area. A short walk away from our summer house was Sankt Nikolaj Kirke. This beautiful church was built in 1406 and due its close proximity to the Kattegat, the church's tall spire was used by passing ships as a beacon. A walk downtown will bring you by the Manneken Pis, a cute little reminder of a Man's interesting story, and if you are hungry, a stop for a meal at Cafe Onkel.
If you have a car, a drive out to the countryside is in order, Harridslevgaard Slot, a 17th century castle is well worth a visit. If you are looking for a little nature experience, just outside of town there are nature trails located at the Glydensteen Strand Daemningsminde. There is a nature tower where you can get an overview of the area and sit and have your lunch, if you so choose. This is only an overview of the area around Bogense. There are many other things to see in the area. Fyn is not a large place, most things are easily accessible in a day. Take your time and enjoy, and then come back for a repeat visit!

Don’t have a boat. However I really like to walk around and look at them and feel the atmosphere. This day was extremely hot and our first visit to Bogense. This Marina is huge! Take a tour!

Came here to watch the cyclocross world championships and came away highly impressed by the area. The marina offered great facilities as well as plenty of nice cafes. It was incredibly scenic as well. Well worth a visit.

Lovely town and you should definitely explore it all from the marina to shops and the church. Also has the narrowest townhouse. Mainly a summer destination.

On a sky blue day this little harbour is a gem. The architecture is interesting and there's nothing like a few boats bobbing up and down in still waters to bring a bit of holiday joy. There were swimmers in the sea here - madness - but in wetsuites. There's also a gorgeous sculpture of a diver .. not to be missed. Perfect place for a little promenade
