Hammershus is an old piece of history, as the castle ruins are from early year 1200. Located at the north tip of Bornholm, raised high above the sea, which you get to enjoy on a clear day. I was not this lucky, but even in foggy weather, ruin sightseeing is great!

Hammershus is Scandanavia's largest medieval fortification. Erected in the early 13th century, it served as a royal residence for Valdemar ll and as a base for the Danish Crusades. It was a scene for many conflicts between Danish kings and the Archbishopric. In 1658 it was occupied by Swedish forces who were finally defeated by the "Jens Kofoed" led rebels... More

The Nibelungen saga is know to many people. But this is the location where the Burgunders originate from. The views are spectacular as well so don't hesitate to go..

This old, historic fort from the 13th century on the island of Bornholm is very interesting and I could not help but thing I was going to see the ghost of Hamlet. Make sure you have good walking shoes on and your camera in your bag. A reconstruction is underway and the view of the Baltic Sea is lovely.

Great View over The bay. Castle ruin, built around 850 years ago. After sightseeing The Castle, walk Down to Hammershavn kiosk to have Quick snack or an icecream.

This 13th century castle/ fortification is sensational. It's a bit of a walk to the top but if you take it at a slow pace it's something that most people should be able to do - the elevation looks big from the bottom but the walk itself isn't too steep so very manageable. One you get up the top, the... More

This is a must when going to Bornholm. This is one of the main attractions which is handled quite well by the organisers. The history of the ruins are very well to the visitors and the view from Hammershus is stunning... We took so many pictures there and our children really enjoyed themselves. There are sheep walking around and it... More

If the weather behaves, this is a great sight. Plenty of info boards. Don't miss the "camel heads" on the walk below the castle. There's a nice short-cut from the overflow parking. Sandwiches, beers and ice are better at the harbour "Hammerhavnen" just north of Hammershus

This is a historical important castle and it's easy to see why they built it just there. They are currently building a visitor centre, and there is some work going on there. But it didn't ruin the beautiful view. A must see when on Bornholm.

The four round churches and this place are the must-do's on this island. It is a brilliant location with ruins on the cliffs overlooking the Baltic. The grounds are beautiful and easy to walk around. They are building a new visitor center which should enhance the experience. Do this, no matter your age.
