If you are at all interested in Art History or religious art this is an absolute must. The 5th century mosaic is (to my mind) better than those in Ravenna, Rome, Istanbul etc, and the 11th century frescoes are stunning in their realism.century . It takes some finding -but better signed than 4 years ago and now seems to be... More

The star attraction of th small monastery located in a serene spot mid upper town, is a 5th century mosaic and a must see, visually well preserved, colourful and interesting. The caretaker was informative and helpful.

If you decide to wander around the Ano Poli, don't miss the Osios David church. Very small, yet decorated with so beautiful mosaics (among the older ones in the city) and frescoes, you will remain stunned! Plus, it offers a great view from the beautiful balcony! Rest a little bit, have some fresh water and enjoy it!

After taking the No. 50 bus to the top of the city, I decided to walk down to the sea, using the guide given on the bus. Oslos David was listed, but finding it was a bit difficult and I almost gave up. I'm so glad I didn't. The place is isolated and has a wonderful view of the city,... More

The church was built in the late 5th century in the cross-in-square type with an apse on the east side. Today, the eastern half of the original facade has survived. The church is primarily known for its mosaic of the vision of Prophet Ezekiel in its alcove, one of the most important mosaics of the early Christian era

Crazy mosaic of the vision of Ezekiel- I mean completely crazy and so beautiful. It features a rare vision of an adolescent Christ. AND it was covered over-first by the iconoclasts, then by the Ottomans. And then nobody remembered it was there until someone had a vision and there was I think an earthquake? The plaster cracked and there it... More

Such a gorgeous little church in the middle of Ana Poli's small winding streets. The mosaic is really beautiful but the story behind it makes it even more fascinating. The gentleman in the church is very welcoming and will explain everything to you. Well worth your time.
