Enjoy a visit to the fort and harbour, shoreline market stalls and excellent shopping. We bought watches, perfume and clothes very good prices and quality. Great coffee shops with ocean views. Easy to find a park for our hired mini clubman sports.

Wandering along the harbour and come across this little gem of a place. Free entry to this sympathetically and modestly restored fort which provides great 360 degree views. Could do with a few info boards knocking up as very little knowledge gained from this historic site in the most southern town in Europe.

Small but very sympathetically restored. Entrance is free - but be aware that it closes at 3pm. Steps lead up to the battlements with excellent views over the harbour and the town.

Whilst off exploring in the hire car we parked up in Lerapetra and had a very pleasant stroll along the sea front promenade and came across the Venetian fortress at the entrance to the harbour. Wandered in and up for some nice views and admired the flowers and herbs planted within the fortress. Free entrance and worth a wander if... More

This is a relatively small fortress, nothing like the one at Rythmion, but makes for an interesting place to roam in for a half hour or so. It's located at the mouth of the old harbor and is in good condition. US standards would have required handrails on all the steps!

On our visit to Ierapetra this time we could not gain access to the Fortress, however we have been inside in the past, and unless anything has changed, there is not an awful lot to see, so we just walked around and had yet another look from the outside.

Nothing much to see, really, like it was said, empty shell, full of history, but nothing to explore really. Nice place to go to when walking around empty and desolated Ierapetra (especially on a hot day). Would say that the place lacks information, but it is (one of the) most southern part of the Crete and Europe as well, so... More

When you see this fortress lying on the edge of Ierapetra coastline, you feel thrilled. But when you actually land up at the place, all you manage to get is a walk on the fort walls and the view of the surrounding through the roof top. The fort does not have access to the interiors and that cuts the curiosity.... More

We were looking forward to our first visit to Ierapetra and being a devout fan of all things Venetian, I was eager to see the fortress. Compared to the offerings at Chania, Rethymno and Iraklion, it is rather disappointing though, a bare shell which you can walk around the outside of in five minutes. No labelling of any description except... More

Visiting Ireapetra means visiting Venetian Fortress!! It's a very attractive place. Well standing beside the sea, but it gives not more opportunities as going around the outside walls. The best side for walks is the part of the walls in contact with the see. The wind at that August day gave us special moments. Libyan see and the clear deep... More
