We went on a Thomas Cook tour of the island from our hotel in Sissi - if I could do it again I would do it independently and get a ferry from Elounda. We spent a long time on the boat, rather than having time to explore the island. The island itself is very interesting but unfortunately our guide gave... More

Went in early April (opens 1st April) and we pretty much had the island to ourselves which was amazing. Very peaceful but you can imagine the hustle and bustle of life there during the leper period. We took a picnic and enjoyed it sat on the circular path by the church. Highly recommend Since read the Victoria Hislop book in... More

We took a boat trip from Elounda. Once we arrived, we were left to our own devices - my advice would be to turn right straight away and go around the island before hiking up to the basilica

I have wanted to visit this Island every since I read the book a few years ago. I wasn't disappointed. Our guide Maria was amazing and covered off real history events and how these stories fed into the book. None of my family have The Island before travelling but they also enjoyed the day and my daughter purchased a copy... More

What a place to visit. Having read the book, "The Island " we were really looking forward to this visit and I must say we were not disappointed. The feelings that this visit instilled in us was weird, it took us back in time and to think how people made a life for themselves with all the problems they had... More

Lovely boat trip out to the island. We spend and hour wandring around the old remnants of the old hourses hospital etc. We missed our return boat back but another came along 30 mins or so later and we were OK

What a great day out this was, superb weather and a throughly enthralling tour of the island and our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of this place. Recommended to anyone thinking of visiting.

Very beautiful scneary. April with so many flowers! The site is full of history. It is really worth to go. We had read the book of The island and we knew quite a bit. It still gave us a deep sense. Good explanations about life there during the leprosy period.

My friend and I want on a boat trip to spinalonga a few years ago from the marine at aghios nicholaous it was really interesting to see how the last of the lepers lived in the colony and on the way passed over the sunken city. Without a doubt Crete is my favourite holiday resort been so many times
