A pleasant shady green space, much appreciated in the heat of summer I should think. Very central, escape for a while from the tempo of this bustling city.

A lot of green area where you can have peaceful walking around little pond. Also some small zoo coexist in this place. Recommended for runaway from the rush of the city.

Enjoyed walking in the gardens on several occasions during our stay in Athens - Temple of Zeus and Hadrian's Arch are within the garden and you have a great view of the Acropolis.

A delightful place to spend a couple of hours free time, such a variety of things to see from animals in the zoo, turtles and fish in the many ponds, fountains, cafe, children’s play area, ancient mosaic floors and Doric columns

Lovely place to walk around in the sunshine. Really lovely how so many different types of people are walking around such a peaceful place in Athens. Not as impressive as other national gardens I've visited, but still worth visiting!

Spent a few hours here. There are plenty of shaded areas to escape the sun. There was a decent play park for children but the toilet facilities were disgusting. There are a few areas with animals but the whole place doesn't seem well looked after...More

A beautiful oasis in the heart of the city. Make sure you stroll through the national gardens while visiting the city.

There's not much to see here, other than a rather sad-looking, small zoo with some goats, rabbits and birds in small cages. There are a few small ruins among the winding paths, and the place seems to attract some of Athens' destitute. If you cross...More

We walked through the National Park on route to the first modern Olympic Stadium. It is a good place to get out of the sun, but gives the impression of being neglected, as are most green spaces. There was a terrapin pond, pretty dirty and...More

Considering these gardens are in a capital city they are dreadful compared to gardens/parks in other European cities. Yes, they are a quiet oasis with lots of paths to stroll around but they are appallingly maintained and could barely be described as ‘gardens’. The cafe...More

Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is
Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament
building on its upper side and surrounded by other
large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande
Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia
are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like
the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia
Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents,
