It's well worth walking around the side of the Acropolis as well as the top as there are a few things to see. This well preserved Odeon is one of them.

We could only look at this attraction in passing as there seemed to be no access all part of the Acropolis complex Take water with you, and be prepared for an uphill climb

Historically, the Odeon of Herod Atticus was the third amphitheatre built in ancient Athens after the 5th-century BC Odeon of Pericles and the 1st-century AD Odeon of Agrippa. Put up sometime around the mid-2nd century AD, it was built in memory of the sponsor's wife,...More

The photos are impressive and do reflect the reality. The setting of this 160AD Roman theatre is astonishing and so is its state of preservation, so much so that it is still used as a venue! Unfortunately my visit was part of a tour of...More

It is an impressive Greek theatre. You cannot miss it once you are visiting the Acropolis! This place looks better on photos than in reality....

Odeon of Herodes Atticus was closed therefore we didn't get to see a show and or hear a opera performance but seeing the ancient theater was magnificent.

This is one of the places you have to visit when going to the Acropolis. A picture at the top of the hill is spectacular and you can capture the whole theatre and the city behind it. If there isn't a show that day, just...More

It was definetely worth viewing, but it wasn't as spectacular as the photos would suggest. If you are in Athens I would make a point of viewing it but don't expect to be wowed.

Are tourists allowed inside the Herod Atticus Odeon during the day (when not viewing a performance)? I understand you can have a bird's eye view of the theatre from the Acropolis but is there a way to be admitted into the theatre--sit in the seats, see the stage or take a tour when there are no performances? If so, details on how you enter, hours, etc. would be appreciated.
