Good viewpoint to view the ribeira from. Catch the metro to the station on the Douro side of the bridge then it's a short but steep walk

The Church and monastery situated on the right Bank of the river Douro, on a high hill. The ascent is quite steep. From the Church offering wonderful views of the river and the city on the opposite shore. Inside opened temporary exhibition, unfortunately the monastery...More

it's a beautiful church, but so sad the condition at the moment. the guide of Porto Walkers took her there and told us all the background about the church. I hope it gets renovated soon

We were disappointed since you couldn't walk around due to a major restoration. Nevertheless the less it's very impressive and you can easily imagine what it was like in the 18c when shiploads of gold was arriving from Brazil.

The church is a must visit in Porto. It's all wood artwork covered with plated gold. The church will have a full inside restauration in the near future, so possible the gold will shine better as today later when this happened ! A friendly church...More

The interior of this church is much smaller but is done in a similar baroque style as the San Francisco church. The pews were covered during our visit and it appears that renovations are getting underway.

From the outside the building seems nothing special but the inside is a work of art. It is packed with carvings which need to be seen and covered in gold leaf. The church is not far from the top of the funicular railway.

The most intricate carvings we have seen anywhere. The guy at the door who takes the tickets tells you to not take photos - which we found incredible. But, everyone was anyway. How can one not? It is fantastic!!!

The Church of Santa Clara was under restoration when I visited. However, the walls are packed with intricate carving, guilded completely in gold. It is well worth the visit!

Unfortunately, none of my searches found info. on times. There are phone numbers for the church listed. Upon arrival in the city there are many who speak English and could call on your behalf and inquire.
