Extraordinary place to visit
Sep 2019
It is surely an extraordinary place to visit while in Braga. The visit exceeded all our expectations. We have been amazed with how the monastery has been rebuilt from the complete ruins. Not only the walls and decorations have been restored, but the atmosphere itself, so that while walking along its quiet long corridors, looking at lovingly restored cells and beautiful chapel, you can almost tangibly feel the presence of the long gone monks. We have been there in September and the gardens behind the monastery have been filled with the scent of the ripe grapes. Please do not miss this place when in Portugal. Do not forget to ask for the audio guide! After the visit, treat yourself with a nice food in the restaurant of the hotel next door.

excellent detailed craftsmanship

cute place to visit and the detail in the craftsmanship was beautiful. The grounds are nice and the details on the woodwork on the chairs inside are great.

A well kept secret with a lovely restaurant
Aug 2019
It is not often you get to visit a monastery in its entirety from the Church to the Chapter House, the cloisters, cells, refectory, Abbots quarters, guest accommodation and garden, you are free to wander. Although unoccupied since the late 1800s it has all been restored beautifully and there still is a feeling of calm and tranquility. The audio guide was very useful and guided us around all the features however there was also a leaflet in English which could have been used with a map. We were lucky when we visited as there were probably no more than 20 other people there and due to the vastness of the place it often felt like we had it to ourselves. We had heard the restaurant had closed down some time ago so were delighted to find the ladies belonging to a Holy Order had reopened it. The food was really lovely and the veal escalope had to be seen to be believed as it was enormous! All served by the ladies who did so with friendliness and good humour despite our limited Portuguese. This definitely was one of our highlights of the region.

when i arrived at this monastery just before it opened at 10 i couldn't see 100 yards in front of me because of the mist, one hour later when it had lifted one gets to see this grand and imposing monastery in all it's glory and what a sight it is,you'll also find the inside is huge and with audio in portuguese and english on offer you'll not only get to see some of the marvels this monastery has to offer you'll also get to learn.
and do spend an hour or two in the gardens as some of the hidden gems you'll find are a real treat.

A relaxing place very close to the city
Oct 2018 • Family
I visit often the gardens and the park of Mosteiro de Tibães with my family. The área is very calm, and invites you for some meditation and to breath some fresh air through the path ways.

A great place not far from the city but where you can feel the country side and explore the forest with kids or just by yourself.

Hidden gem!
Dec 2018 • Couples
Though the access to it may be a bit tricky, it's definitely worth the visit! The church, the gardens and the typical tile arts were surprising..

Amazing place

One of the jewels of Braga. Of you want to know how the monks lived and how was the life in closure and a humble lifestyle you should definitely see this. It's very old and also full of history. And you have lots of places with animals and nature. Great to relax

Best place for relaxing
Apr 2017 • Family
It doesn't matter if you are willing to take a stroll through the farm or to meditate for a while in a yoga class with a certified yoga master. The monastery is a rebuilt complex with a restaurant and a few rooms reserved for lodging. I love going there just to be in contact with nature. If you get lucky you can even visit some art or photography exhibitions or attend to a concert... all can happen in this amazing place. You can even spot a wedding ceremony.

A very interesting visit
Jun 2017 • Business
A very large, recently restored complex that offers endless opportunities for knowledge. From those related to the history of monasteries in Portugal, from their fortunes to the misfortunes; to the constructive ones of a very complex complex, with parts dating to different ages and very different technologies; to the artistic products, produced in centuries. Then there is the chapter of the restoration works, recently concluded, with some very interesting ideas. In short, a visit that is worth doing. Beyond the organized tours, it is worth walking a bit around the inhabited rooms and watching walls, ceilings, floors: from the anti-seismic pombaline walls, to the cloaked ceilings ... At least, a pair of hours!
