The pope was here
Jan 2020 • Family
An open space with a church that was visited by the pope. Beautiful place, quiet and the halls used for religious activities are worth seeing. View of Braga from that height is also memorable. Pity that this place is not as much known as the boun Gesu church. Only half an hour away. Not to be missed

Worth a Visit

Beautiful cathedral overlooking Braga. Very symbolic church in Portugal. Must witness the stunning sun set. Transport is required, as the church is 15mins from the city centre.

The idea that people pilgrimage here today and for 100’s of years before is amazing. It’s pretty up there and worth seeing!

High on the hill
Oct 2019 • Couples
Amazing church located high on a hilltop and visible for miles around. Dedicated to Mary, the church occupies a large plot of land and its gleaming white dome is its key feature.

There is no cost to enter.

The church hosted Pope John Paul II and there are several items of historical interest. If you are visiting Bom Jesus, this church is quite close and worth a look too. It’s not as old as some of the other churches but it’s grand scale is quite impressive.

very beautiful Marian sanctuary and very nice views
Sep 2019 • Friends
Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro is a very big church located about 5km far from Bom Jesus do Monte, near Braga, in the North of Portugal. It was built in 19th Century and it is now the second important Marian place in Portugal after Fatima, so it is a place of pilgrimage. Really, the main building is big and very beautiful, and the views of Braga and surroundings are very nice. Very interesting place. Very beautiful especially in the sunset.

Great views

If you’re looking for an excellent view of the city this is where you had to go. There’s also an impressive church at the top. It’s not an older church it’s actually quite new but it’s still very impressed all the same. There’s also parks and trails All the way up to the hill.

Great view of the city

Lovely place for a stroll, the panoramas are absolutely stunning. What we liked is that it wasn’t as crowded as Bom Jesus do Monte, we though of it being actually even better.

Beautiful church on the hill
May 2019
We visited the beautiful church on the hill early in the morning on the next day after we went to the Bom Jesus do Monte. And it was good so – we could define the impressions. The fog and emptiness made this place mysterious and magnificent. The atmosphere in the church was calming and invited to sit down and think of …

nice church on top of a not very impressive staircase
Jun 2019 • Solo
This large church is located near Bom Jesus, and one can walk from there in about half an hour. This sanctuary also has a staircase, but much less impressive than the one in Bom Jesus (and there is no lift, so much fewer tourists). However, the church here is nicer and well worth a visit. From nearby in the village one can take the bus back to Braga, or carry on to the 3rd sanctuary.
