A great place to escape the crowds in August. Was extremely quiet, I think there was only one other couple in the museum. Is a small but interesting museum about the history of Maderia. Unfortunatey the air-conditioning didn't appear to be working that day, and it was extremely hot.

Interesting insight into some of the history of the island. Spent an hour looking round and having fun with the interactive installations. Discovered I'd never make a boat builder. Well worth the 5 euros entry.

Initially we were a bit dubious about the location, about whether this was actually a museum at all as the ground floor doesn't look like it. Having paid our money, our suspicious grew when it seemed as if it was just an exhibition about volcanoes, and not the best exhibition at that. But you go upstairs and the "real" exhibition... More

This is an interactive centre where you learn about Madeira, it is not a film but so much better. We were in Funchal a few days before we went but we were glad we did, look at everything and when you are out and about sightseeing you'll realise the value of going to this centre early in your holiday. Turn... More

This is not as fantastic as is made out to be but well worth doing. It is in the Old Town across the road from the Cable Car ride. In detail, this history and culture of Madeira could take you an hour to get round. Not really for children.

This is a hidden gem if you're interested in the history of Madeira. It charts it from geological foundation through occupation by Portugal right up to the modern day. If you have a passing interest in economic and political history over the years then its definitely for you. You can glean all the information if you sat down for a... More

If like us you know nothing about the history of Madeira this is a good place to visit. It is a small museum - just 1 floor of exhibits - but good value at €5. It tells the history in a series on "storyboards" and we found it interesting especially some of the old photos. After the museum we visited... More
