Great trip down although a bit costly Really enjoyed the trip and would recommend it. However the end of the rise is only half way down the hill. You arrive at their cafe, a bus stop with very infrequent service, and lots of taxis. The drivers tell you it is a long hour walk down and they will do it... More

This seems expensive at 15 Euros per person, but we felt it was good value as the guys controlling the basket Toboggans really have to work hard to keep control and also make it a fun ride. There are two professional photographers en route and the photo at the end is expensive at 10 Euros but there was little pressure... More

This is a fun activity for all ages. The process of driving the WickerTobbagons looks somewhat primitive and you have to trust the two men who both push and brake the wicker basket down two miles of slippery steep streets. Lots of thrills and near misses made for a great ride

We arrived in Funchal by cruise ship and decided to walk to the top of the mountain using the gondola as a visual guide - a 12km hike with many roads so steep they had stairs for sidewalks. It was enjoyable, with many beautiful views along the way, but very taxing. At the top, we waited in a very long... More

A fun trip down. Not as scary as it seems. But it costs 25Euro for one person. What they dont tell you is that it finishes in the middle of nowhere. You either need a taxi into Funchal (fixed price Euro 20) or walk, about 3-4km.

i was very unsure about this as i am a bit of a wimp, and have to be pushed into doing some things. There was nothinbg to worry about. The ride is in no way scary. It cost 15 euros and takes a few minutes, the views are wonderful on the way down, they don't go very fast. I thought... More

We are used to ride this kind of sleds in snow, not in hot tarmac. But it´s still fun, you should try it!

Of course you must ride in a wicker toboggan, if you are in Funchal and Madeira! It goes without saying. This experience has been in existence for more than 100 years. If your grandmother visited Madeira, she probably rode this! And it is still fun and exciting to this day. Don't miss it!

Despite some reviewers saying that the runners were pushy in more ways than one (sorry!), we paid our 30 Euros (for my wife and me), and took the ride! It was a bit of fun, they can sense if you are nervous and will go steady, or if like us you are laughing and relaxed, they make it skid sideways,... More

Hey, it's a tourist thing to do but it was great fun and if I went back, I'd do it again! It's based on an old means of transporting people and goods and as such has a traditional tie to the city and its people. The ride itself is fun. It's not a roller coaster so don't expect that level... More
