Walked up from Teixeira, which is a short drive out from Santana. The walk to top of Pico Ruivo is only 2.8km from here and is a achievable by anyone in reasonable health. The tops are covered by cloud most of the time, so try...More

Pico Ruivo, at 1861 meters, is the highest peak in Madeira. My husband and I, after having done consecutive hikes for 3 days, decided to take the easier way to Pico Ruivo, via Achada do Teixera. If I remember correctly, the trek from Achada to...More

The views here are truly amazing. Absolutely worth a visit to the top. If it's clear you can see for miles and it's most definitely worth it. We were lucky to go up when it was clear.

There are absolutely brilliant views from up here, you can virtually see for miles on a clear day. There is a wee concrete tower which my husband climbed up, as I was too short to do so and he got some good photos. The scenery...More

Visited here in the spring this year. Unfortunately the weather in Funchal was beautiful, but not so up here. I can imagine it would be magnificent on a brilliantly cloudless day.
