First, dont let anyone tell you that you need a guide. You don’t. There is only one trail, and there is no place else to go. Also don’t let anyone tell you that is too dangerous. If you practice common sense you will be fine....More

The drive to the summit is worth it even if you do not hike beyond it. The roads to the top are very steep with many sharp turns, but I am so glad that we went. The weather changed as we were on our way...More

This and Pico Ruivo are the two highest points on the island and are definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, the fog and rain can make it impossible to do this, so try and check the weather in advance.

We did 14km hike from Pico Areiro to Pico Ruivo. Started after 11 am and came back around 4 pm, but we stopped many times. Route is mostly good shape. Must do to all hikers.

This walk is totally recommended for people who love a challenging walk and aren't afraid of height. The views are stunning and well worth the effort. You may think it's a short walk but with 1600m of climb involved it doesn't feel like it. We...More

Started at the parking of Achado do Teixeira, the walk is quiet easy for average walkers. The sights are amazing so take some breaks and wander about the nature. Next time I'm on the island. I will walk from there over the Pico Ruivo to...More
