We made the big and hard hikingtour. The Pico Ruivo is beautiful and the view on the top of it is fantastic, but you have to be in a good condition to make this hard tour. For us it was the best place to visit while our holiday on Madeira!

We drove up from Santana and did the easy walk. Good path to access the top. Lots of free parking. Take a jacket just incase and comfy shoes but it's an easy climb. About 2.8km to top from carpark. There is also another great view point marked on the drive back down that us worth a stop. This is a... More

I've been there with my wife in the beginning of October. We got there by car as there's a parking close to the mountain top. The way up from the parking is very easy and we've met many older people on the way. The views were breathtaking. Remember to take a jacket though as it's much, much colder up there.

Very nice walk, and a bit of a good condition is a benfit. In our case it was cloudy, sometimes we did not really see anything (like all the way on the top) but in general we saw a lot, and the clouds gave really nice views. If you are on Madeira you should really do this!

I went on the hike from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo and it was the toughest hike I've ever done (I am in my 30s and slightly fit). If you stary directly from Pico Ruivo I guess it was not a big problem climbing to the top. The views up there were to die for, it is worth all... More

Hei guys. ..me and my girlfriend found quite an easy and economical way to get to pico do arieiro to start our exciting hike to pico ruivo. ..There s a cheaper and more adventurous way to this, all within 10 hours...no rental car, no taxi !!! you can take a bus from near the Funchal bay, the Teleferico station, bus... It's a complicated climb especially with some heat (it was a warm day) and the last 200 meters are tough mas it's totally worth it! the view is something else and you are literally above the clouds. leave the car in Achada do Teixeira.

When visiting Madeira, you must try to reach the top of the island, where you will have an amazing 360 degrees view. If you drive to "Pico das Pedras", the path to the top will not require special equipment or a sporty condition. Remember to check the weather before going - The weather forecast for the nearby Pico do Arieiro... More

As having kids with us we chose a simpler way to the top, e.i. not from Pico Areero but from the parking Achada de Texeira. From there you still have about an hour or hour and a half ahead of you right to the top. The views were stunning as there was not a single cloud in the sky. Bring... More

Went here twice during my visit to Madeira. First walk was at daytime, arrived at 10am ish. If you want to avoid a crowded walk, I suggest arriving between 8:30am and 9am. It is an easy walk, i.e. if you take your time and enjoy the views now and then, any untrained person can walk this route. It took me... More
