If you go to Portugal, you MUST make Sintra part of your travel plans. We found an incredible taxi driver at the airport who took us to our hotel and offered to take us to Sintra the next day. Jose Carlos showed up the next...More

We visited here on what we later found out was a national holiday. We visited Quinta first then the palace and fort after. In hindsight we would have split it over two days arriving early to both as it gets extremely busy by lunch time....More

If Neuschwanstwin Castle looks like Sleeping Beauty's castle, the Palace of Pena looks like Walt Disney took over the decorating. With its bright colours, towers and styles, Pena is a cheerful delight for the eyes. A local bus, #434, departs from a stop adjacent to...More

Probably the highlight of our day trip to Sintra was the Pena Palace - a mish-mash of architectural styles that seems like it came straight out of someone's dreams. The exterior is the highlight, although a tour of the interior is well worth it. The...More

A beautiful, fairy tale like castle, with moorish influence situated a few kilometres outside Lisbon atop a hill. Interesting architecture and with a panoramic view extending to the city of Lisbon and the Atlantic Ocean. A must visit.

Built by King Ferdinand with grand additions in a riot of styles, and attached to an ancient monastery, this is an architectural tour de force. We went early to avoid the crowds. Get there before 9am if you can. Highly recommended.

The palace is not extremely old, so rather well preserved which makes it nice to visit. The parts you can visit are limited. It might have to do with continuous restoration activities. Paying 50 euro for a family with 2 kids is rather expensive, especially...More

You really need to take some transport to get here. It's a very long walk uphill so it worth paying. The cheapest option is the bus that has a round route, pay once and hop on and off. But though it's only 5.50 euros the...More

Great place, but everything was a line: get tickets in advance (online or at train station) hire a tuk-tuk and do the visit that way. Forget the 434 bus (waste of time and money, horrible service, you'll wait in line for ever!) Pena palace is...More

This is a stunning and architecturally quirky Victorian royal palace set high on a craggy peak above the town of Sintra. As such the view from the terraces is simply stunning. If you're interested in royal history then this place will be of particular interest...More

We did not go to Cruz Alto so cannot answer that question. The park ticket would allow you to see the Chalet (perfect not worth going in), the Moorish fortress (we did not go in because it was raining very hard (you do not... More
