The building itself is a beautiful one, but unfortunately the square in front of it is one of the best examples of ugly uninspired pieces of modern design (only good for skaters...). It just doesn't go with the monastery at all and nobody really understands why it was designed like this. But it is definitely worth a visit. Just ignore... More

This lovely church is a fine example of the use of the unique Arrabida stone. It has a quiet beauty and well worth visiting.

Last saturday I've visit the monastery with some friends and I wasn't impressed. The monastery is located near Setubal city center...and the building is so badly done they transformed the front in a skaters playground without any plants or flowers . Inside stil same disaster...simple and really boring. Having said that do I recommend spend time visit this building...? Absolutely... More

I had the privilege to attend a concert as part of Setubal Music Festival in May 2016 it blew me away and the person sitting next to me was in tears it was so moving. Take time on your visit to go inside the columns are like nothing you've ever seen before and are carved from stone mined locally which... More

The convent itself is not accessible to visitors, but you have good views from various perspective through windows and doors. The attached church was not open during our visit in May, 2016, but should open in a couple of weeks. The small museum of painting and artifacts upstairs is a wonderful little treat and makes the visit worthwhile. Two pieces... More

Is the Church of the old convent of Jesus of Setubal, is a church build in the Gothic style and situated in Setubal, and is being considered one of the first examples of the Manuelito style, we have to admit that almost all the churches are only open to public on certain times, this due to avoid robbery of pieces... Cloisters inaccessible, this museum is small, some interesting pieces but, as a whole, a little bit disappointing. By the way, the audioguide is useless. No real useful explanation about the showings! Wait till the restoration work is over!

We went here on the 14th July and found out that it had it just been opened to the public on the 20th June! Excellent museum with artifact explanations in English and the adjoining church is exquisite. Well worth an hour or so to visit.

Newly renovated monastery with veridic ceiling from XVIII century and masonry back from XVI century. A small art gallery inside. notorious since it is the very first manueline building, If going on sunday the church is open only until midday ! P.S. The cloister area is still kind of close for walking but you can have an eye on it... More

Impressive architecture and workmanship. Worth a look if you are wandering around Setubal. Neighbouring streets have many quaint cafes, all in all made part of an enjoyable day.
