Visited via the Hop On Hop Off bus , and found it to be a lovely area. The buildings, the monastery, and the special custard tart shop ( you have got to buy them !) were well worth the visit.

Many tourists, big monuments. Not sure what the attraction is, other than being by the river. Good place to bicycle.

This is nice monument to see, but you need to take a train to get there as it is not in the city center, but on the river side.

I was able to visit Torre de Belem while on the Hop On Hop Off Bus, it was worth the stop! I was able to get some beautiful pictures. It wasn't too crowded because it has been raining all morning and as soon as we got there, the sun came out and it was beautiful! Must see if you're in... More

Interesting UNESCO World Heritage structure. Soothing sounds of waves cascading up stone steps at shoreline was relaxing. On warmer days it would be fun to walk barefoot on the steps (if permissible?) The day we visited was windy & chilly! It would be great to have a small picnic at the Tower with warm custard mini cakes from nearby Patise... More

This monument creates a lovely environment for midday and evening outings. Its really nice to sit round the monument and admire sunset while drinking wine with friends. Especially nice for a brake after all the sightseeing of Belem area.

We visited this tourist attraction after tour in Jeronimous monastery. The easiest way how to buy tickets for monastery and Torre de Belem is to buy combined ticket in museum of History in monastery building. So based on this fact, we avoid long waiting for entry in both of this tourist attractions. But unfortunately, there is also the additional possibility... More

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belem
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
