This is a museum with rooms of good exhibits. But there is one room which is truly stunning. As you enter the room you go through airport style security - pockets emptied, body scanner, etc. Why? Because the room is devoted to Iron Age jewellery...More

I am a history buff and never miss a chance to visit any museum of a kind. This one was very interesting, but even if you are not into this type of activities, start your tour of the area here and buy the combo ticket...More

I suspect that this is considered a poor relation of the adjacent Jeronimo's Monastery, but we visited today because it was listed in International Day of Monuments & Sites, so was 'free entry'. (Incidentally, the queue for the Monastery was the longest I've EVER seen)....More

The National Archaelogical Museum is co-located at Jeronimos Monastery. It is a small collection of mainly roman and iberian artifacts, and a decent coin/gold collection. If purchased as a joint ticket with the Monastery, it is worth a short visit.

After visiting the Jeronimos Monestery we felt we had to see the Archeological Museum of Lisbon which is located in the western wing of the Monastery. The museum houses an incredible trove of ancient Egyptian artefacts but the highlight was their treasury room of gold...More

I am going to preface this by saying this cost 5-6€ to enter so we probably shouldn't have expected the world. Still, for something that called itself the National Museum of Archaeology it was rather thin on the ground in terms of things to see....More
