Excellent and diverse museum

Thoroughly enjoyed this museum, and it's free entry with the Lisbon city card. It mainly houses a variety of fossils and artefacts. Pleasant way to spent 1-2 hours

This Museum is the "official" geologic museum of Portugal run by the Portugal Geological Survey. It is the "old" style with the cases lined in chronological order (oldest to newest) and has rocks/fossils/minerals on display. It is obviously an oriented to the academic scholar, but as a professional geologist it was a treasure trove to fascinating look into the geologic... More

It is inside the university. Apart from the amazingly rich collection, you can find people still working on the pieces. Very interesting. The fossil collection is beautiful!

In my opinion, what you'll think of this museum depends entirely on what you expect. If you're very interested by geology and natural history, or, even better, Portuguese geology & natural history, I'm sure you'll love it. If however you're just looking for a geology / natural history museum, there are much bigger ones in cities like London. If you've... More

It was so many fossils here, and the stones were beautiful. I especially liked that it was marked what the stones consisted of. Sadly enough you could see that the museum was not visited so often. Some extra money would have done them good.

This is the place for you if you're interested in the evolution of life, anthropology, archaeology, and all things geological. If you like drawing bring your sketchbook and make a day of it, there are some amazing things here. I made a video with the pictures I took: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W55SKZViuZA the 27 marvels of the museum have an English translation book... More

A little of the beaten track (drop down Rua de Sao Marcal from the Botanical Gardens to get here) but worth the search. A delightful museum echoing the original styles of museums many years ago. The immediate entrance area belies what lies behind the doors into the museum proper. Original wooden glass topped viewing tables run along two long rooms... More

When one enters this museum the decoration and layout takes you back to the XIX century immediately. When museums where simple but yet cosy with a warm wooden atmosphere and creaking floors. The collection. Very unique with beautiful pieces. The museum has a 27 Wonderful Pieces route that was fun to discover and to find out about. Sadly we were... More
