Nearly every major European city seems to require a triumphal arch. Each has its own character but they are all more or less very similar. What I like about the arch at the end of Rua Augusta is that it is at the end of...More

The Arch is at the bottom of Rua Augusta. The entrance is on the left hand side (facing the waterfront) before you go under the Arch. Buy your ticket (2 euros April 2017) and go up in the lift. Once you get out of the...More

Visit the view point. It's real nice 🙂 Small spiral stairs but good concept with travel light circuit

When you stand in the Square with your back to the river, looking at the arch, you begin to image what it must have appeared like to someone stepping of the boat on their arrival. Thinking what a magnificent entrance to the city.

This Arch is basically impossible to miss, because its superb location. Next to Praca do Comercio Square, near River Tejo(Tagus) and on your way from Riverfront towards Rossio, Restaudores, Av. de Liberdade direction. It was built to commemorate Lisbon's reconstruction after massive earthquake 1755 and...More

The Arch is at the end of Rua Augusta, a major pedestrian street right through the center of Baixa. Great to just walk the length of the street ending up at Praco De Comercio (this way you are walking downhill)

It's a very impressive and very nicely decorated marble arch. Its purpose is not a victory arch but to commemorate the city's recovery from the 1775 earthquake

On our trip to lisbon, we bought a tour package with tour buses that also included electric cable car rides, which is already an attraction apart. Everywhere we go, this is one of the most striking and we consider it a must stop.

Although I was only there for about 30 minutes I enjoyed going up to the top of the monument and enjoying the views.

Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site,
Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply
"Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake
construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755
earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its
name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in
Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the
Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the

More
