The MUDE was just a few blocks from our Airbnb apartment on Rua Augusta. My daughter, who is a fashion designer, found the museum for us. The collection is not very large. It was interesting and took about a hour to look through.

The museum is showing a small collection in a building off the Praca do Comercio, I would really love to see the wider collection when the main building is open again.

Very inspiring but would have hoped to have seen a larger collection. Recently re-housed and down-sized I think. A bit disappointed photography not allowed - make sure to take a notebook and pen!

As a fashion management graduate, I was hugely disappointed to see that the exhibit on haute couture dresses was not there, as advertised. My friend (being a designer-maker) and I, strolled around Lisbon 4 times following the directions on the street posters and Google maps, after finding that the original building had shut. Eventually someone from the tourist office showed... More

Right now the building is under construction until sometime next year (late 2017) which means it's close and the exhibition is temporary in different locations depending on the time of renting per place. if you plan to visit until buildding is open again make sure you look for exact location.

We ran into this museum of Design and Fashion purely by accident. Not expecting a Design museum in Lisbon, we walked in mostly to satisfy our curiosity. The first floor is definitively worth a 45 minute stroll. It features examples of contemporary design in chronological order with labeling in English. From Olivetti typewriters to Ray Eames' elephant stool. The upper... More

During the time I lived in Lisbon, MUDE was one of my favorite places to visit. This is the museum dedicated to design and fashion in the city. The building has the main floor plus 3 other treads. On the main one you check their collection which is great and well organized. They display it as a storytelling of the... More

Take no notice of the Trip Advisor information, this museum is closed for the moment. I like many people stood outside hoping that there was something I wasn't seeing in the sign. There is, however, a notice to the left of the door advising that the museum is temporarily closed. There isn't any indication as to how long temporary may... More

This museum is free. The labeling is excellent and in English. The exhibition we saw is a great review of design in the 20th century moving into the 21st century.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
