As most people head to Portugal`s Algarve an alternative visit is Cascais. This is a beautiful resort on the west coast next to Estoril .Came across it about 5 years ago when visiting Lisbon and since then have been back 3 times.

Lots of activities including beach volley nets. Decent sized beach with lots of room. Near lots of restaurants. You can take a stroll and sit and watch the beach goers or the small little boats docked.

The beach is very big and there is a very nice bar with outdoor where you can enjoy after a long section of surf or tanning. Just on the side of the bar there is the bus stop which takes 15min to reach the town
