Nice bells and accoustics

You can hear the bells from all over the town so why not visit this lovely church? We attended Sunday mass despite not understanding a word of Portuguese. The choir was wonderful.

The Se Cathedral is best viewed from the exterior as it's interior is less than impressive. Yes it is large but also dark with only small windows to let in natural light.

Had a lovely visit to the Se Cathedral on Palm Sunday. The mass was in Portuguese, but was easy to follow for a non-speaker. The music was lovely, the surroundings beautiful and historic (the original building dates back to the 15th century and was repaired after the 1980 earth quake). I felt very at home here and was very glad... More

A "must visit" that we found rather disappointing in comparison to so many interesting and richly decorated churches of Angra.

Outstanding example of early church construction. Climb to the top for outsanding views of the Angra harbor as well. Fall weather in Angra can be outstanding

This a beautiful cathedral that was completely destroyed in a 1980 7.2 earthquake and has been wonderfully restored. The cathedral is open to visitors but please be respectful; it is still an active cathedral.

While visiting Angra you must stroll past Se Cathedral. I did not venture inside but just strolling around the outside was nice. Beautiful building with a long history.

We went into the cathedral on our first day on the island. We thought it was a little plain for being the main cathedral of the archipelago. We then found out about its history which included crumbling apart during the 1980 earthquake followed by a fire.
