This garden was planted over 150 years ago as the owner gathered plants from around the world. He introduced Japanese cryptomeria to the islands. There are a few trees still growing (notably a giant fig) that he planted. I was impressed by large trees of some unusual conifers (araucaria, agathis, afrocarpus) more so than by the oaks etc.

We enjoy gardening, therefore, we enjoy visits to Botanical Gardens, last year that was 2016 we visited the free one, this year 2017 we paid 4 Euros each for the privilege which included a free local drink.

Lovely gardens. We where on a cruise and like to do things our self so I spotted these gardens on a the map, asked at the info place ashore and the guide said its only a 20 minute walk to them. We strolled through the town sight seeing, it probably took us 1 hour to get to them but I... More

There is a 4 euro entrance fee to enter the garden for which we got a map and a sample of the local liqueur in the café (ring for service if there's no-one there!), There is a wide range of trees and plants to see, including roses, cacti, a giant rubber plant, bamboo and an interesting "Mickey Mouse" plant. Allow... More

Entrance price = 4 €. This garden has a less formal layout as the other gardens. Many exotic trees, it feels as if you are walking through a tropical forest instead of a garden. A gigantic Moreton Bay Fig tree is one of the showpieces. Worth seeing are also the old orangery, now a party pavilion and in the back... More

This was a lovely spot to enjoy after a morning of touring the island by cab. Beautiful plant specimens and nice places to sit and rest a bit. The wall with the nasturtiums and the Crinnum bed were my very favorite. Be sure to pay when you walk in (it's easy to walk past the little booth) - we saw... More

Nothing special here just a nice place to visit on our walking tour of Ponta Delgada Portugal. Not worth the price of admission compared to other places we have been.

Very little to see apart from large tree specimens told 2 euro entry cost 7 euro for 2 people. The free gardens near by were far better looked after and more interesting. Would not visit again.

It was a cool but dry day and we walked through the gardens and our guide was able to talk us through the plants and trees. There is a small cafe in the grounds where we stopped and were given a local drink plus we purchased a cake and an ice cream. There was a wonderful sign on the door... More
