are the restored city walls behind. Apparently Gil was one of the great navigators so worth knowing about him. City walls were pretty with Moorish influences.

This is a lovely place to sit a while in the afternoon, sipping a cool drink and listening to the various street musicians perform. If you don't want to sit and drink, you can join the locals under the trees, or sit with the tourists under the statue. Either way it's blissful!

He was important to the city as he was a 15th century explorer who was born here near the turn of the 15th century. During Portugal's golden age...he sailed with Henry the Navigator.

Located right outside the city walls downtown. This statue does honor to one of Lagos' best men. An easy stroll near the end of the downtown area will bring you to it near the Governors Place Archway and towers.
