Climb to see for miles!!

So cool and didn't kill me getting to the top. What a view! Love that we decided to stay in this little town for a pampering evening.

Probably the most must do in Beja, well worth visiting but not for the infirm or feint hearted. Great views , steep steps and no guard rails around the battlements. Very picturesque.

It is free, it is clean (like the rest of the city). It is one of the must things you should do if you come to Beja. It is charming as most of the Portuguese castles.

The castle is well maintained and gives excellent views of the town and surrounding countryside if you are able to climb the 200 steps of the tower.

Beautiful old 12-13th C castle built upon old roman fortress. Seemed like the layout of most children's toy castles. Great views on tower and rampart. Walk with caution. Fall off you will die. I wouldn't let children run up unattended. The tower has great views back into castle and town

At the west end of old town you will come across this small but elegantly rebuilt castle. The highlight is the Torre de Menagem, standing 40m high and made of marble. Climb to the top for some truly great views of the Alentejo. You won't be disappointed. There is a small fortress area with another rebuilt wall that one can... More

Definitely worth visiting and climbing to the top as the views across the town and to the countryside are worth seeing. Entrance is free and their is a tourist office in the grounds and they are really helpful to recommend what to see in Beja. We visited at the beginning of September when temperatures were reaching 40C in the afternoon... More

This ancient castle still looks fantastic. The next door cathedral is also nice. The town itself is as well good for walking around. Like it.

2500 year old castle and the remains of the original city walls. Incredibly well kept. We inspected the outside, as it was closed for lunch when we returned from a walk in town.

We visited on a Sunday morning and it was free but I am not sure if this is the case during the week. The signage is very good in Portuguese and English explaining the various parts and history of the castle. I didn't go to the top of the keep and the spiral staircase was 2 way and it was... More
